Hi all ,

I was just wondering if you could help me , I have just embarked on a new health and fitness lifestyle change and I am getting confused about how many calories I can eat. I wanted to loose 1-2 a week , entered this into MFP and it has said that I should eat 1200 calories a day , however I cam across the BMR calculator today and it says that I should be eating 1600 calories , which one is correct ?

I am doing a cardio work out 5 days a week and strength training 3 times a week and make sure I eat all my exercise calories , just worried that my body is not getting enough food on 1200 , but don't want my weight loss stop on 1600 .... what do you think ?

Any help much appreciated

A BMR calculator does not tell you what to eat, it attempts to predict your BMR which is ~70% of the energy you use. So both could be correct.

Pick a tool and stick to it.

If 1200 panics you then dial in a lower loss rate, it's just maths. Or do more exercise to get more food.
