Big Year Goal!

My friend and I made a bet with each other for who could lose the most weight this year! We've been friends since high school and consider each other basically like sisters. I moved to NYC and she's still living in Los Angeles so the loser has to spend the money to visit the other. Basically a friendly wager. Neither of us have the money to spend on a big trip so it should be a good motivator. I'm actually really excited/nervous about it because I know she's way more competitive than I am so she'll take this serious and keep me focused. And I don't want to disappoint.

Has anyone else made a big goal for the year? Or a bet with a friend?

I've been trying to lose weight on and off for the past couple of years so it's really not that sudden of a decision. A lot of the good habits have been built up over the past 2 years. Finally feel ready to make a big push toward getting healthy and getting rid of all the excess baggage (that's what the weight has felt like).

Trying to keep myself accountable by telling everyone so I'll be extremely embarrassed for not following through!

I am working towards losing a good amount of weight. I come on here for support through other members I've added to my friend list or I get support from a fitness group on FB. Feel free to add me. Ive been eating a lot less processed foods and tracking all my food on here. my diary is public to my friends too. Good luck on your goals, having a weight loss support system really makes the difference in my opinion. :)

I just turned 30 on April 2. By my 31st birthday I want to be down 50 lbs (my halfway point). I am terrified and am fighting my old habits. I have always assumed I would fail at weight loss and usually give up within the first week. This time it has to be different. I spent my 20's fat I AM NOT going to spend my 30's fat!

You guys are awesome! I had a similar experience when I turned 25 a couple months ago. Pretty much freaked out like OMG I can't believe I'm still overweight. Definitely been taking my goals more seriously. It's hard to break old habits so I'm taking things a day at a time and trying to make the best decision with the options I have in front of me.

Are the two of you the same height, build and weight to start with?

If one of you has a lot more weight to lose than the other, the leaner one is gonna get screwed, because the leaner you get the more weight loss slows down. You might want to rewrite the bet to "whoever loses the highest percentage of weight in X amount of time" to make it fair.
