Why did I gain weight???

I didn't weigh myself when I started so I literally have no idea how much I weighed but I can see I've lost a bit so I'm guessing I was 200lbs+
Anyway I was 197 when I weighed myself last thursday
Today, the next thursday I'm 198.8
I'm eating anywhere between 1300-1800 but on tuesday I did eat 4025 but that wouldn't make me gain 2lbs??
I'm really confused
(EDIT: sorry for the TMI but i'm on my period but because I'm on the implant i've had it for like 2 weeks now so I don't know if it could be that? I know it makes you bloat but I was horribley bloated the day I weighed myself last week and I didn't feel anymore bloated than that today???)

If there is one Truth that I learned while dieting it's this: bodies are weird.
A gain like that is probably water weight from any number of sources. Either from your cheat day or if you've recently started exercising or are nearing your TOM. It's possible you're eating more than you realize if you're not being careful with your logging (a food scale would be ideal), but it's probably just a temporary fluctuation that will go away soon.
ETA: you got your edit in while I was typing. Yes, I would guess it's just water weight from your period. Wait it out and weigh again next week.0 -
I weigh all my food pretty much & I'm trying to wean myself in bit by bit so I don't really exercise at the moment, I'm hoping it's just a fluctuation0
-
Yeah. If a gain or lack of loss persists for a solid month, you can consider that your diet isn't working, but if you think you're doing all the right things, just wait it out for a few weeks.0

i'm not really trying to diet i don't even know why i weighed myself i just felt like crap all the time so i stopped eating so much and then somehow my body just said hey lets get up every morning for no reason so i definitely feel better, i don't want to eat any less than i am either because i always give up and this time i feel like there's no reason to give up lol0

Don't feel bad, I lost 31, and then about 4 days later I gained about 5 back.
How?
Why?
I was pissed. I didn't do anything any differently over those 4-5 days.
I stayed there about another 5 days, I was getting depressed, but still doing what I had been doing,
and all of a sudden yesterday I was down 7 pounds.
How?
Why?
I don't know, maybe my body was 'plateuing' or something, I don't know, but bodies do different things with different people.
I wil feel better on my weekly weigh-in tonight I think.0 -
I weigh all my food pretty much
see bolded.
edited to expand upon my response: if you are not weighing/measuring everything and estimating a lot, you are likely taking in more than you think you are. over time, these miscalculations can have quite an impact.
your daily intake is not consistent (you say you eat somewhere between 13-1800). where did you come up with those numbers? 4025 is quite a bit more than 1800...how often does that happen?0 -

oh baby you aint seen weird yet..0 -

Weigh everything. This will be holding you back a lot.
I also got told by a nurse (who's also a nutritionist) that women are better off weighing ourselves once a month because of our monthly cycle. Yes i know guys have one too.0 -
Don't worry too much about the one high intake day. It's the average over time that really matters. The one thing to watch out for on high days is sodium, because it can make you retain water and that will show up on the scale.0

by pretty much i meant when you get stuff from a packet and the packet is the portion size and it says the calories on obviously im not going to weigh something if its already weighed lol0
-
oh and that happened once. i shouldn't have to apologize to you for accidentally eating like **** for one day. i relapsed.
and it doesn't matter if my numbers aren't consistent lol i should be losing weight eating 1900 because of my size etc. as long as it's under 2300 i should be losing weight, if some days i want to eat more than others then i will. i'm not going to say i weigh every single thing i ever eat because i don't sit and weigh like raisins that are already weighed...0 -
jesus christ.
i was asking you those questions as a way of understanding why you might have been gaining weight.
no one was really suggesting you weigh/measure prepackaged portions, we're talking more along the lines of things like meat, rice, etc.
you asked a very broad and vague question that requires some level of background information. dont wanna provide it? then dont expect to get any solid answers. heres the answer to your vague question. you ate too much.
no one asked for an apology for your binge.
you've got a **** attitude.
good luck.

Also, see this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/ihad/view/the-path-of-success-631437
Just because I'm a math nerd, I ran some numbers:
1900 x 6 days = 11400 + 4000 = 15400 for the week
15400/7 = 2200 per day (average)
That's not much of a deficit.
I use weekly calories, so that if I want a "splurge" day, I save up calories during the week for it. Under the nutrition heading on the phone app, there are the daily and weekly bars @ the bottom. The weekly one shows you how under you are for the preceding 7 days. I have it set to "start" my week on Monday. That way, I can save up a deficit (usually no more than 100-200 cal per day); then on Friday or Saturday I can cut loose a little.
Keep in mind, my weight for 1-2 days after tends to take a bump upwards, but then it all comes off over the following few days.
Hope that helps.
*** Went back and looked at what you put for your numbers and realized I was off. If you average 1300-1800 and then add that one 4000 cal day, that's a daily average of 1900. You mentioned 2300 as your cut off, but is that your TDEE or your daily goal?0 -

I weigh pre packaged food, its never what it says it should be. Sounds like youre frustrated when people give you sound advice and want to take it out on them for stating the obvious. If you dont weigh everything than you dont know how much you're eating. Period.0 -

Agree about the attitude. Was going to try to help but seems it'll just be taken as an attack. So I'm just going to say best of luck figuring it out on your own, OP.0 -

Well clearly you're not interested in real answers from people who are actually trying to help you so I will revert to the default answer that seems to make everyone feel better.
Oh don't worry honey its not you're fault, clearly you're just holding a little extra water or something silly like that! That weight will fall off in no time with no further research needed! You go girl!0 -
I don't know...
Did you poop in the past before weighing?
Did you pee last time before weighing?
Did you weigh yourself in the morning or the after noon?
Did you move the scale sine your last weigh in?
Did your weigh yourself on a full moon??
???
There are a lot of different reasons why you might have gained weight since your last weigh in. More realistically, you could be retaining water (perhaps from weighing yourself before you worked out), you might have eaten food recently, etc. You could have even gained some muscle mass!
You really shouldn't be so critical of a small weight gain since last weigh in. Just keep up the good exercise and healthy eating and you'll be fine.0 -
agree on the attitude
But OP I think you need to incorporate some daily exercise into your weight loss. I am a believer that you need to get the mental part of diet first and get the right attitude towards weight loss, which it doesn't seem you have yet.0 -
No need to apologize and I don't think anyone was judging. You asked for help - people here are trying to help.
There are many things that will affect the scale but they're generally temporary. Sodium, lack of sleep, stress, hormones/TOM, etc. Give 3-4 weeks and you should see a downward trend in the scale over time.
If you consistently eat in the 1300-1800 range (or whatever range you arrive at to be at a deficit) then you'll lose weight. Exercise is good - but its not the biggest component of weight loss. Nutrition is - eating enough to fuel your body but not so much that you're eating at or above your maintenance level. There are as many opinions on what is the right way to eat as there are people. Use trial and error to figure out what works for you. Personally I aim for mostly good choices, eat in a reduced range most days, and consider portion control as my ally. On days I eat higher, its not an all-out buffet but I figure eating an extra 500-1000 calories occasionally (2-3 times a month) is a good way to keep my routine from becoming too routine, and allows me a chance to eat things I may not go for with a reduced calorie range.oh and that happened once. i shouldn't have to apologize to you for accidentally eating like **** for one day. i relapsed.

I had this issue last week and I freaked out!!! But things are fine now.
It might be water weight
Have you been eating a lot of fruit and veggies lately? Or a lot of protein, diary, and grains?
Protein, diary, and grains sit in your stomach.... making it hard for your body to get rid of them. Not saying you shouldn't eat them, but you should only eat a small amount.
Fruit and veggies are easier for the body to handle.0 -
If you ate more you likely had a higher sodium intake which means that your body likely retained additional water and that extra 2 lb is pretty much water. Stick with your plan and don't sweat the scale day to day. That's it really.0
