Back Pain

I've just began walking to lose some baby weight and my back has now started hurting. I'm walking roughly 4 miles a week at a slow to moderate pace and pushing a single stroller. I've never experienced pain in my back unless I was on my feet for 12+ hours at my job during pregnancy. Are there any tips on stretching or maybe shoes to buy? I have a pair of relatively new Nikes I've been wearing and my feet never hurt so I'm wondering why so much pain if I'm just walking.

Are your stroller handles the right height?

check the stroller handles for proper height and get some GOOD walking shoes - shoes can cause more problems than you would believe!

eta: before I invested in some good shoes, after running for a short time on the treadmill, my heels and back hurt so badly I couldn't move the following day...

don't heel strike. Make it a conscious effort to walk from on the fore-mid section of your foot. When you heel strike, you send a shock up your leg, into your hips and lower back. Look up barefoot, or chi running.

Look for good stretches for hip flexors and hamstrings. I have this same problem . If those are tight, they pull at your lower back when you walk. Not sure about shoes and stroller. Could also be something about your position when pushing stroller?

Don't heel strike while walking? Are you being serious right now?
