Sitting down too often

I keep reading articles and research all over the internet about how sitting down for too long is harmful to your health, regardless of your fitness level and how active you are. I consider myself an active person. I exercise for an hour or more 6 days a week, and my job requires that I'm on my feet all day, moving around and sometimes doing heavy lifting. I also like to stand while I do homework and other tasks at home. On average, I probably spend no more than two or three hours sitting every day. And they're never consecutive. I'll sit or lie down for 30 minutes to an hour and then get back up to do something else. The longest I'll stay seated is usually never more than an hour. Should I be sitting down more often to let my body recover from my workouts, or is a few hours of sitting/lying down every day enough to recover? All these articles portray sitting down as this horrible, life-ending activity (and I get that spending 20 hours a day doing nothing but sitting is unhealthy), but it also seems necessary for people who are fairly active. Not to mention that none of the articles/research mention how long is too long to spend sitting down. I just thought it was interesting and wanted to get some feedback if anyone has an opinion about this.

I don't know what your "workouts" involve, but if you feel fine, then keep doing what you're doing. You rest while sleeping.0 -
The only folks I knew who did their homework standing up were dealing with anorexia! Honestly sitting down to do your homework is NOT a bad thing!0

It's not that I enjoy standing 24/7; my legs do get tired after a while and need a break. I don't mind sitting down to work on homework, but homework usually takes me a few hours to do & it's hard for me to sit for that long. I must have a bony butt or something because sitting down for any prolonged period of time gets really uncomfortable. I just find standing a lot more comfortable.0

By your yardstick I should be in a box 6' under! I am a Sales Engineer out on the road. I drive to my customers offices, sit in a meeting for about an hour and drive to the next. I can spend upwards of 3-4 hours a day driving (can be up much longer if I am going to more distant customers - 6+ hours) and 4 hours with the customers. There will be short bouts of walking, but nothing to write home about. I do 4.5 hours of Aikido a week, and the weekend is usually pretty active - walking the dog, chores, and stuff.
I know I am not as active as most people on here, but what I do get in seems to be enough - getting the dog was a big help! I have my activity level in my setup down as sedentary and work my calories to suit.
As long as you are happy and achieving your goals, I think should be able to work things as you want!0 -
