Celebrating small victories...

Christmas has come and gone for another year and I feel compelled to look back how life was a year ago.
One year ago, I was losing my NP job due to my clinic being bought out... no warning and yes I was told on Christmas eve day.
Pretty much ruined by Christmas, and by April I had no job. I moped for a month... and then I got serious about taking my life back. You see, although I loved my job, it ran my life, worked 50-60 hours a week... no time for myself at the end of that...

So I started working out... and eating better... and running... and running... and running...
And although I have no pictures... this is what I have learned this weekend.

1. I have a great new job, that I really enjoy; and a boss that loves me!

2. I have much less stress and drama in my life, aside from the occasional on call day, I can leave work at work

3. I look forward to running... and I have a balance in my life that for the first time will allow me to be home at a time that I can plan dinner and things after work...(this never happened before...)

4. On Christmas night I wore the same pink sweatsuit as last year (the velour kind) and I can now zip the jacket where I couldnt before... and the pants are dang near falling off!

5. Every year my MIL insists on buying me clothes... and every year they are too small and its embarrasing. This year, the top that she is bought is too big!

6. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST... the skinny cut jeans that I wore in August ... well they are now baggy jeans that have to be held up with a belt!

Celebrate your small victories here --- they arent small at all... but when we are so focused on a number on the scale we forget to celebrate them!!

Way to go. We forget to relish in the small victories that lead to large victories.

Loved this...I had a similar moment a couple weeks ago when a co-worker gave me a card for my 1-year job anniversary summing up all of my successes this year. New job with many successes, quit smoking, started running, began Improv and performed in my first show. A great year of a multitude of small victories. Thanks again - loved this post!

    Thank you ... sooo much!
I didnt want to post all of the graphic details...but lets say it was dirty, nasty, and a horrid experience for me.
But its exciting to know that coming out on the other end I am a better, much more fulfilled person than I was before!

Thanks... it was the ultimate. Neither MIL or SIL are very sensitive at times... drives me nuts.
Another good moment: MIL bought me my first Packer jersey (and I am very thankful and appreciative, its a wonderful present but) ... I open it up and she says ... sorry all they had was an XL, they didnt carry plus sizes so I thought you could at least try this out or you will get into it eventually...

Haha... it fit perfectly... its even just a bit baggy.
  • wow! keep up the good work.

wow! keep up the good work.

    Thank you!
Ok people, what are your victories this holiday season?
  • My life last year remained just about the same all year (which was not the best). So not a lot of victories in 2010 HOWEVER wait until 2011. I will have plenty to talk about I just know it! I know it because I will MAKE them happen!

I love this thread! I have accomplished the following:

    1. I quit drinking soda. I was drinking a liter and a half of mountain dew a day.

    2. I quit smoking cigarettes. I had only smoked for a couple weeks, but it's been nearly 3 months and I'm not looking back

    3. I started running again and have bested my PR several times. A feat I never thought possible, especially while I was smoking.

    4. I have become comfortable with my body. Maybe not FULLY. I won't wear a bikini just yet, but I don't feel insecure in my marriage anymore as far as hubby looking at other women. He doesn't actively LOOK, but I used to freak if we bother noticed an attractive woman.

    5. I eat alot better, but there is room for improvement.

    Happy New Year, everyone!!!

Love this thread! Your victories are so impressive. I've been so focused on all my weight loss and mental overhaul victories that I frequently forget that I QUIT SMOKING THIS YEAR!

  • Congrats to you, you are so right that we have to celebrate the little things! When I started my journey back in August my #1 goal was to be able to wear my wedding ring again, which I hadn't worn in 3+ years. I remember telling my trainer several weeks in and her telling me to try it on, but I was scared too. However to my surprise it actually fit and I was moved to tears and so excited to show hubby when he got home. Another small victory for me was the first time I could look straight down and see my feet while in the shower. These small victories were "BIG MOMENTS" in my journey and helped keep me focused!
