Starting & Stopping Routines

First of let me point out that I really, really love fitness & exercise, so much so that my fiance worries I will become addicted to it. That being said I have a rotten cycle that happens every so often. I will start a routine, resume my regular running, eat healthy, create new routines (I'm studying to become a Personal Trainer for extra knowledge really) and then something happens and I stop.
Usually it starts where I have to stay late at the college for class or lab, don't have the gas to get up to the gym or the weather is crap and I really don't have the gear to run in it. Once it starts it's a missed day, then two, then three. Next thing I know, I'm sucked into the internet browsing countless articles and it's been a weeks (or more) since I've worked out. My eating habits remain the same its just my workouts get all wonky. Please help!!

Can you ride a bike for transportation, maybe take the scenic route when it's time to go home? Or how about doing your run from your location once class ends, or wearing your running clothes already so that once you get back you dump your stuff and go running?0

If you really really love fitness and exercise it would be your priority regardless go the weather or anything else...0

For running, running with a local club works well for me.
There's no "I'll leave it half an hour", because the run starts when it starts, so you have to be there ten minutes before to be ready, have a quick chat etc.
Also, as above - try and cycle for transport more. One thing I've seen some people do is park a car on the outskirts of town and cycle in - that way they actually get in faster as well as getting exercise.0 -
I live in a small community, the commute to work or class ranges from 25 minutes to over an hour, so riding a bike right now is out. Just seems like my brain and body are clashing about it and it's frustrating.0

I hear you. I actually work out every day beause I am so afraid to get out of the routine if I do a rest day. Even if it is anything, but I have to keep it up.
That said, I love to workout. To me it feels like to hormones that let you crave more exercise start to get lower after a two day break… and zaboom, I am off the exercise wagon.
So I cannot really help you. Try to not find excuses. Or get very basic equipment to do stuff at home when you cannot get to the gym. That way it won't be a break and you can (mentally) continue seamlessly.0 -
I have the same issue with routines of ANY kind! I have a "trick" I play on myself. If I don't feel like working out I have the option of walking on the track at the gym instead. I can also walk outside if it's nice. Or anywhere else. After all, it's just "taking a walk". I keep doing this on the days I want to be working out until I get in the habit of a workout on those days. A good workout routine is based in habit. Even if you're crazy-busy still take a short walk to reinforce your habit. It will be easier to get back into your routine that way.0

This is why I workout in the morning, before anything has the chance to get in my way. I have the same track record as you, and I am well aware of it. This awareness is what keeps a day off, due to travel or illness, from turning into a long-term break. I just refuse to let it happen. When I'm back to a normal routine, I make myself at least just get up and put on my workout clothes. If I can do that, I may as well workout. It's really all a mental game. You just have to decide that you're going to do it0
