Hi all, I recently got divorced and am very broke. I'm trying to rebuild my life. I have over 100lbs to lose. I keep getting discouraged, because I keep reading that after that big of a weight loss, the only way to look decent is with plastic surgery which i definitely cannot afford. whats the point of suffering and losing all this weight if i am still going to look like a monster>? has anyone lost a lot of weight and has not gotten plastic surgery who looks great? if so please let me know, i need motivation and help. good luck to everyone!!

I think as long as it's slow and over a long period of time your skin will adjust to the new weight. Most people who have issues with the skin are those who lost more than 2 pounds a week. You have to give time for your body to adjust.0

It depends on a number of different factors like how long you've been at your current weight, how long it took you to put on the weight, your genetic make up and how long it takes you to lose the weight. But generally speaking, if the weight was slow to put on and is "slow" to come off (about 1 pound per week) your skin should be able to shrink back as you lose weight. It's usually just rapid weight loss, like the weight loss from a gastric surgery, that causes the loose skin.0

I would not fret so much. You're young yet. Take the process slow and steady and your skin will retract. Some toning exercise and I am sure you will be fine. The longer you wait to lose the worse it will get. I have lost over 150 lbs and still have a few more to go. Spanx products are wonderful!!!!:bigsmile:0

Not true! I lost 78lbs! I did have some saggy skin, but I found a way to fix it. I competed in figure competitions. I worked harder in two years than I ever had in my life and its ALL gone. My diet was higher in protein and I did a lot of High Intensity Interval Training. Google it!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!
I am finalizing my divorce in four weeks!!! GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Its not something you have control over...some people do, some people don't...based on age, genetics, etc. However, if you have 130 lbs to loose, I guarantee you won't have saggy skin for the first 75 lbs. So, just start working on those pounds.
Worrying about it will simply serve as another excuse not to get started.0 -
I heard that if you lose over a certain amount of lbs it is covered by some health benefits. I live in Ontario, Canada and heard that our provincial health plan will pay for it, if it's over a certain amount.
if you live elsewhere, you could check with health ins. companies? if you're covered? I hope you are. everyone deserves to feel great after such an amazing achievement. my friend lost over 100 pounds (2 lbs / week) by eating healthy and walking. she has lots of extra skin and actually says she's more uncomfortable (and embarrassed in a bathing suit) now than when she was fat. she's got 40 more lbs to go before she's ready for surgery, and i just told her yesterday about the possibility of our health plan covering it. she's going to look more into it.
hope that helps?0 -
Age has a lot to do with skin recovery. I promise as you get in shape you will feel better about yourself. You will worry less about this issue. Confidence conquers all!0

Lose. the. weight. slowly. That's your best chance of recovering your skin. My skin has recovered and I'm 14 lbs away from reaching my 100 lbs lost goal, but I've also taken 3 years to lose the weight, putting myself into maintenance at several stages to give my skin the time it needed. It takes a lot of discipline to not lose too quickly, but it is well worth the time investment since it's healthier for your body to adapt to these changes slowly anyway. Good luck. There are no guarantees, but you have a good chance if you do things the right way.
Btw, I'm sorry about your divorce. If you need anyone to talk to, please feel free to friend me. I'm sure this is a challenging transitionary time in your life.0 -
I have some loose skin....does it make me look like a monster? Uh no. Loose skin is easier to hide than fat just in case you were wondering0
