Honestly that diet looks very similar to what I eat on a 1200-1350 calorie diet. I don't know anything about it or the "chemical" science behind it. Just wanted to say that what they're having you eat and the calorie level isn't unheard of. Since it is probably around 1200ish for those days that would make someone lose weight quicker if they were pretty overweight.

My understanding of a cardiac diet simply involves eating foods that are low-sodium, and low-fat. Salt increases blood pressure and your risk of hypertension which puts you at a high risk for heart attacks and stroke. Same with saturated fats that clog your arteries. Most cardiac docs also prefer us to limit our red meat intake to anywhere between seldom to not at all.

Basically what a cardiac diet is is eating foods that are low in cholesterol and saturated fats along with sodium. Those seem like fad diets.

You're looking at FAD diets. They aren't effective or healthy long term. And I about died when I read CANNED products in the soups for that first one because cardiologists generally recommend avoiding canned products to cut sodium in their patients to help lower blood pressure. Your doctor may have been thinking of the DASH Diet. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Check out these links for it:

http://www.dashforhealth.com/ (This one wants to charge for the specifics of the plan, but if you put your info in on the page it will give you the number of servings from each category you should eat.)

It looks like a fad diet. What was your doctor's reasoning behind you trying it? Maybe it's time to look for a new doctor....
  • The doctor did not give you any information after recommending this diet? Usually they can provide information on the different guidelines they want you to follow.

The links to the diets you provided are not what is typically considered a cardiac diet - like everyone else is saying those look like fad diets and don't seem healthy to me. Plus, a lot of the things they recommend on those meal plans are high in sodium - which is not a cardiac diet.

I would be surprised if a doctor recommended following a fad diet like that.

Cardiac diets are low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium.

Do you think he could have meant The American Heart Association Diet? That's healthy for anyone.
