Compression stockings causing numbness

I'm wearing prescribed compression stockings - Sigvaris brand, 20-30mmHg, custom fitted - to deal with surprise bruises and varicose veins. This is my third day of wearing them. I found several issues with them and am wondering if they are normal (happens to everyone) and I just have to suck it up and deal with the added pain.

1. When I stand or sit for a few minutes, then go walking or get up, my feet have gone numb. Numbness also happens when I have my feet bent or crossed at the ankles.

2. When I sit, my legs are hot. When I walk, my legs are cold.

3. They feel like a perpetually damp bathing suit.

I'm seeing my GP this week. I just want to know if other people have this stuff happen to them.

I wear them (30-40, the highest compression level) because of a chronic illness. It sounds like they are too small, and messing with your circulation. The compression is unevenly distributed if they are too small, and can cause these problems.
