Controlling Appetite

Hello everyone!

I have a question in regards to controlling appetite... Like most of you, I'm currently in the process of losing weight. However, sometimes my appetite gets the best of me. I am great at sticking to my fitness regime and eating healthy for the most part - it's just that sometimes it seems as if I am perpetually hungry and cannot curb my appetite (ESPECIALLY in the evenings). This has been very problematic to my weight loss journey seeing as I often go over my calorie count.

I just ordered Windmill™ Health Products Double Strength Saffron from GNC, a natural supplement that is supposed to aid in appetite control. Does anyone have any experience with this particular supplement? If not, do you have any other suggestions?

Any feedback would be very helpful!

Thanks. :)

  • I'm having the same issues...I tend to go over by 100-200 calories per day. Actually, that isn't as bad as the days I go over by about 300! It's easy to do. I try very hard to eat the right things so that I don't get hungry too easily, but I can't manage to stick with the calories I need to lose a pound a week. I did lose 7 after 5 weeks, then 11 after the 6th or 7th week, then seemed to gain 4 back within 4 days (WTH)? It hasn't been a steady pound per week by any means. Curious what others have to say.

I'm less hungry when I use MFP's protein & fiber goals as minimums, and ignore fat & carbs. It will take trial & error to find what works for you.

You lose weight by eating at a deficit. Period. Budget some calories for an evening snack.

Eat "healthy" (whatever that means to you) 80% of the time. Fit yummy, portion-controlled treats into your calorie goal. Deprivation can lead to bingeing.

Finally, be sure you've set an appropriate deficit. Your ticker says you have 32 lbs. to go, so set your goal no higher than 1 lb. per week.

I try to eat low cal foods that are high volume as side dishes and snacks. Think "big" foods. Like a huge veggie salad with my dinner with light dressing. I eat a TON of vegetables. Broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, zucchini, stuff like that you can eat boatloads of it for very few calories. Dip them in hummus, salsa, or light ranch for a snack.
Those 100 calorie popcorn snack bags are good too.
