Let's talk poop and weight!

Seeing that eating a clean diet helps in the bathroom. Do you find yourself more regular with clean eating or still "stuck" in the middle? I have less stomach irritations and feel like I am "regular" now. This might be gross but after a #2, I tend to feel a little lighter?!? Haha I'm sure because we are releasing the toxins but want to "weigh" in on what others think. Do you think it somehow attributes to weight loss too?

  • Well, you are lighter after you poop. You're evacuating waste. I have IBS C, which might be TMI, but it means that no matter what my diet (which is high in fiber and I take supplements) and my water consumption, I still go through long periods of constipation. Going to the bathroom doesn't contribute to fat loss. It's irrelevant. I could lose 4 lbs in two days on the scale because of waste loss, but that doesn't mean I lost 4 lbs of fat.

The scale is unreliable for showing the changes in your body- but eating better does help most people, who don't have chronic diseases/problems, maintain a balanced digestive system.

Of course you are a little bit lighter after doing a no 2 - but this is just one of many daily things that fluctuate weight slightly throughout the day - along with urinating, sweating, eating.
Bit this is not significant in the overall ptogress of weight loss.

I think the reason you are more regular on a clean diet is nothing to do with releasing toxins - more likely to do with eating more fibre, that's all.

If you're getting a good balance of what you need, I think that whole process becomes a lot easier and more regular..hah.
I think they have charts to gauge if you're in a good place with your waste elimination.

Last weekend when UConn won the National Championship (GO HUSKIES!) I was visiting my old roommate back up on campus. I ate about 800000 calories worth of dining hall food and wine with practically no fiber. That was one hell of an experience when it came to bathroom trips. I felt like I had a brick house in my stomach and felt like I weighted a ton.

Regardless of clean or not, I'm regular when I'm eating a diet high in vegetables. Add a decent amount of fat to the mix and your wheels will be well greased, so to speak.

Let me rephrase the question- of course, I know that pooping doesn't make you lose weight. I'm saying if you are going #2 more often with the clean eating and do you feel it is aiding to your overall weight loss. Meaning, do you believe the more you poop the healthier the body and cleaning your system? And I'm not talking the "runs" or that sort of thing. But a healthy poop...I think we all know what that looks like?? Hahahaha sorry this is a honest question.

    No...I mean really???

Weight loss is about a calorie deficet not the types of foods you eat...or how often you go.

    OK, I'll bite.

Do I think that being "regular" is good for you? Yes. No one likes to be constipated.

Do I think that eating "clean" makes you more regular? Possibly.

Do I think you need to eat "clean" to lose weight or be regular? No.

I don't eat clean but still get lots of fruits and veg and try to drink lots of water/beverages and I have pretty healthy poop and am quite regular.

ETA: And I am losing 1.5/2 lbs per week right now.

Psyllium fiber (metamucil) is a Godsend for when you make a change in your diet, or if you are irregular regardless of change in diet. Life saver, and healthy!
