Craving Salty Crunch

A lot of times I find myself craving something salty and crunchy.

I don't want to deny myself, because I know that doing that will trigger a binge (entire can of Pringles anyone?).

Can you recommend something that I can bring in my lunch that will satisfy that salty crunchy need without completely blowing my macros/cals for the day?

I like 5-6 Triscuit crackers (ingredients: whole grain wheat, soybean oil, sea salt - that's it!) with a wedge of Low fat Laughing Cow cheese. Very tasty, with a smidgen of protein too. Also, I will throw a few tablespoons (3-4)of popcorn kernels with a tsp of oil into a paper lunch bag, and microwave it. Roll the kernels around the bottom of the bag to spread the oil, and it takes 2-3 min to microwave it. A little salt and it's a pretty low cal, low fat treat, and a nice source of fibre.

You could try air popped popcorn, smoked or other flavored almonds, one ounce of Sunchips or pretzels. As long as you can keep the portions reasonable, you should be able to fit it in your macros. I love salty/crunchy stuff too, and have managed to fit it in my calorie goals. I just can't buy the binge trigger snacks (cheetos!).

I like to pack a (small) amount of nuts, pistachios are lower calorie, I have the salty crunchy craving thing too. I used to bring the 100 cal popcorn bags, but they are not very good for you I guess. Pita chips and hummus is a good one too.

Blue Diamond has some small packs of sea salt almonds that are really tasty and crunchy that would probably be pretty satisfying.

Strangely enough, I find serving of Kashi Cinnamon Crunch does it for me. (No milk, just straight up cereal.)

To satisfy this, I eat air popped popcorn or Special K chips. They aren't nearly as great as real chips, but you can have quite a few for about 100 calories.

I've bought baked lays chips, pretzels and even some veggie chips. Sometimes you just need to feel like you are eating a chip. When that small 1 oz serving just won't do - (evenings at home) Popcorn. So I add extra salt and drink extra water and don't worry about the scale (water retention) for a day or so.....at least the craving goes away then and I can move on.

    - PopChips
    - Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts
    - Trisuits/Wheat Thins with some Laughing Cow Cheese
  • Pringles makes an 8 pack of 100 calorie chip cups...I keep them around to satisfy that early evening salt craving :)

Try slicing up some peppers, carrots, or peas. Put them in a plastic bag then right before you are going to eat them add a little salt to the bag.

I also will just eat a can of veggies and they are already preserved in salt.

If you want a sweet and salty, try some apples with a little salt on them.

    Thank you everyone!!!

I've got to stock up on my salty/crunchy... I have raw almonds, but there's no salt... So they do ZERO for my salt cravings. I don't have any issues with my blood pressure, so there's no real reason that I need to keep a super strict eye on my sodium intake.

Those 8 packs of Pringles sound like music to my ears... That's exactly what I need!

I like a tsp of Kroger private selection cucumber dill yogurt dip spread on a celery rib and wrapped in a slice of light bologna. 70 cals a wrap. Salty, crunchy and just enough fat to make it fun!!

Try "popped" chips - I love the ones at Trader Joe's in BBQ flavor. They taste just as good and crunchy as regular chips but you can eat 20 for 120 calories and only 3 grams of fat - and they taste WAY better than baked potato chips!

I also really like Angie's sea salt air popped popcorn - 4 cups for 120 calories and it is really good. I prefer it to the microwavable butter flavored stuff any day. Plus you can eat a lot and not feel guilty!

That is soooo wrong. But I will, of course, have to do that to someone.

I don't "glow" when I work out. I sweat like a horse. This causes me to lose a ton of salt. To prevent the overconsumption of salty snack calories, I sprinkle celery, cucumbers, pickles, and carrots liberally with salt for a snack.

Those are some nasty, yucky donuts! Slap that boy ruining a delicious treat!

I begged my husband to do this on April fools in his office. He wouldn't. Big weenie.
