Body media and 1545 calories in 3 minutes?

So tonight I put my band on for first time and linked it to my phone. When I got on the phone and clicked live it said next to calories burned the numbers 1545. How's that work?

If it said that after three minutes then it clearly isn't working. That's close to my BMR for a whole day LOL!

I don't know your stats but I'm wondering if it does something similar to what a fitbit does the first day you wear it.
The first day a person wears a fitbit, the calorie count can't really be trusted (unless they put it on first thing in the morning..mid day or later and the calorie count is pretty worthless) and this is why:
    - estimates what it thinks your activity might have been from midnight to the time you set up the device
    - adds your bmr calories

So what I think you might be seeing is:

BMR (from midnight till the time you put it on) + estimated activity from before you put it on

I could be completely off base, but that would be my guess.

When you plugged in your stats, it began one of its many calculations based on weight/age, etc. If you dont wear it, it guesstimates calories burned based on the info you plugged in, including what time you wake and sleep. When you sync it later, it will ask what you were doing during the time you weren't wearing the band and will guesstimate a bit more accurately.

I have a fit bit and it calculates calories even when I'm not wearing bc of BMR. My guess is this did the same thing and just calculated from midnight? See if it's crazy high in the evening tomorrow, if it is then it's not working, but if it's still 1500 +/- a few hundred based on activity level, I'd say it's BMR.

Thanks everyone. It's actually NOT working. I called body media today and they worked with me on things and we discovered it doesn't work so I need to return it. Bummer!!
