MFP and YAYOG (You Are Your Own Gym - Mark Lauren)

Hi everybody

My name is Daniel, and I've been reducing my weight with MFP over the last two months. I would like to share my experience of going through the YAYOG programme at the same time.

I've been doing YAYOG for almost two years. In the meantime, I perform mainly Chief Class, but also some Master Class exercises (as I'm not ready for their equivalents in Chief Class). I keep about the intensitivity of the original programme (four to five exercises per week). I don't log them in MFP at all because I haven't found a viable solution for that.

My aim is losing about one pound a week. As I'm being extremely disciplined by MFP, I've succeeded in complying with the calorie intake that MFP prescribes for that weight reduction. However, the outcome in connection with YAYOG is far better: I'm losing about two pounds a week! I ascribe this to the increased muscle mass that MFP doesn't consider and the YAYOG exercices that I don't log.

I should add that, while good at maintaining the desired absolute calorie intake, I'm really lousy at regarding the several food components (carbs, protein and so on). I am notoriously low on protein and rather high on sugar.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with MFP, and with YAYOG you could even get slimmer faster!

Daniel

Sounds like you are doing well. How much weight have you lost since joining MFP? I don't know much about YAYOG but it sounds interesting. I really want to get strong. I'm just not sure where to start. Is there a web site? Glad you like MFP and I know there are a lot of people on here that can help you with your macros and getting more protein and less carbs. I am diabetic and have to do the same thing, watch my carbs and eat more protein. Good luck with your program. How much do you want to lose? I have lost about 90 lbs and want to lose about 50 more. I really need some toning exercises. Have fun here at MFP.

    Hi txcraftr

I have lost 14 pounds since I am on MFP. My goal originally was 10 but then it went so fast that I decided to extend it until Easter.

For a start, go to https://www.marklauren.com/. I really never go on the site but just follow the book. He started with You Are Your Own Gym, and now there are others, too, including a book especially for women. There's an app, too, but I don't know how that works. I just realised that he even links to MFP: https://www.marklauren.com/blog/category/nutrition-top/.

Having lost 90 pounds is impressive. How long did that take you?

Good look for the remaining 50 - not much given your previous success!

How do you log your YAYOG workout?

    Hi Taith

As I said, I don't log it at all. I just wanted to post the effect (an extra pound a week). In principle, some busy lizzie would have to add up all the sets and reps for each of the workouts in YAYOG to come up with a calorie number.

    Regards

Just FYI, if your MFP setting is to lose 1 lb per week but you are actually losing 2 lb per week, there there are 3500 calories not accounted for somewhere. It could be a lot of things:

    - YAYOG workouts are burning 3500 calories through the week
    - You are eating a less than you think
    - Your BMR is a little higher than what MFP estimates
    - Any combination of the above 3 things and probably some more things I didn't think of.

At any rate, sounds like you are doing great. Resistance training, such as YAYOG is a great way to workout. Sounds like your next step is to figure out how to hit about 150g protein per day so you have what you need to support your muscle.

    Thanks for sharing your experience!
