Reaching macro's/goals

How important is it to your weight loss progress if you're reaching your calorie targets, but struggle to stick within the macro/goal limits? especially fat and sugar. And what should you do if this happens sometimes?
What do you do if you are ever over in the macro's, but are under your calories for a day?

In terms of weight loss it will have little bearing - if you are under your calorie goal then you are in deficit and will lose weight.
In terms of body recomposition, macros become more important as ensuring adequate protein intake for muscle repair is necessary.0 -
in MY opinion macros are a lot more important than calories, i can go in fat loss or gain only changing macros, i don't believe too much in calories, i know it's strange to say thin on mfp but calories are just a measurement, i think keeping track of your macros is the most important thing, and also the quality of foods is very important and you have to distinguish yourself that foe example carbs and sugars are different if you take them from rafined sugar or from lets say fruits, macros are the same but for the body are two separate and different things !0

To be frank if you are hitting macro goals you are probably hitting calorie goals.
Calories for weight, macros for health and body comp.
It's not the type of foods you eat that affect weight loss it is the amount of food you eat...
Not believing in calories is like saying you think that the sun revolves around the earth...doesn't make it true...just IMHO of course...science and math trumps opinions.
ETA: to the OP it is important to hit macros if you are concerned with nutrition and body composition. Getting in enough protien is important for keeping feeling fuller longer, helps heal muscles if you exercise, you need fat in your diet to help absorb vitamins and nutrients, sugars are only important if you are a diabetic, carbs are important for energy and brain function.0 -
Thanks guys. Yeah I'm just concerned mostly because I have hit over my fat and sugar a few times recently. I do eat quite a lot of sugary fruits like apples, pears, berries, dates, pineapple etc.
I want to lose weight obviously, which is happening steadily over the past 4+ weeks logging. But I also have 33% body fat at the moment so if I try and keep within my fat and other macro's regularly, should I be able to reduce my body fat?0 -

you'll reduce your bodyfat by being in a calorie deficit, not by reducing the amount of fat you eat.0 -

just because someone says that the "world is flat" does not make it true. So you can not "believe" in calories all you want but they still matter.
Using this logic, I could eat in a surplus, hit my macros, and somehow lose weight…however, as calorie do matter, if I did that I would gain weight.
Also, there is no difference in "refined sugar" and "fruit sugar" you body reacts to all forms of sugar, as well sugar.
For strictly weight loss, calories in vs calories out is all you need…
For body recomp, bulking, cutting, etc, then it is important to hit macros…0 -

sorry but i'm still of my opinion as i change my macros i manage to lose weight. and there ARE differences between macros : using your logic i could live healtly eating only refined sugar as carbs, butter as fats and whey protein as protein, yeah i'm hitting my macros. . . i don't think so0

in regard to the op question i say, if you are doing something that is working for you don't get stuck on the numbers and keep doing it, change it when it stops working. The thing is trying out stuff and see what it woks for you, everybody wants an universal answer but there is none.0
