Castoreum / Clean Eating

I try to eat as clean as I can and I know I can't trust anything on food labels. But I was talking to a coworker today and they said that as long as I know what all the other ingredients are and can pronounce them it is health food.

But then they told me about naturally occurring castoreum, which is listed on a lot of natural products as "Other Natural Flavors". I found out that this is actually the secretion of a beaver, from glands near its rump. Wikipedia says that our consumption of this stuff is like 300 pounds per YEAR.

Anyway, I want to make sure I get it right - is it pronounced "cas-tore-eee-yum"?

Yup. It puts the "yum" in beaver *kitten*.

    I don't know, are you sure it's not "case-tore-eee-yum?"

It could be an important pronunciation error.

Hey at least they aren't stealing their babies' food.

That's true. That's why I only eat raw milk. My dietary restriction list is getting unwieldy. But nothing is too good for my body. It's a temple.

how exactly do they coax excretions from the *kitten* of a beaver?

Is that a painful and invasive process, or one the animal does willingly?

This is actually true. If you do not eat beaver correctly it can taste like *kitten*. You might want to scootch down a few inches.

Man I guess anybody with a speech impediment or reading difficulties are excluded from the exclusive clean eating beaver *kitten* secretion brunch I was planning...their mothers probably didn't eat clean whilst they were breast fed, so serves them right  .

Up down, it really depends on how you approach the beaver.

It's true. I find if I'm too straightforward in my approach it scares the beaver away. A little petting goes a long way when it comes to beavers.

The annual industry consumption is very low, around 300 pounds

    Per Wikipedia

What if I am an exceptionally good reader? I can pronounce ALL the chemicals in my food. Is that still clean eating?
