I bought a bento!

Okay, first thing I will admit is that yes, I'm one of those American girls who love Japan.

Anyway, I wanted to start packing more nutritious lunches, instead of throwing bars into my work bag everyday. I'm hoping that the bento will help two-fold.

1) I think it is cool, so i will be motivated to bring it with me
2) People in Japan is much smaller portions than the typical American, so its a much smaller lunch box that will help me with portion control.

Also, it comes with two compartments and dividers so I can carry a variety of foods easily without having several small tuppaware containers.

I have a bento, it has a bears face on the front and has little pull out compartments - I even bought those little silicone cup things to put inside for sauce or little bits, I love it! Its cute but really helps to control portions and lets you have a variety of different things for your lunch which I love! Hope you enjoy it :D

    Bentos rock.

I find that one of the best ways to motivate myself to do pretty much anything is to buy a gadget of some sort to do it with.

Currently, I am waiting for my new nutrition scale to be delivered from Amazon so that I can start weighing my portions. I am also looking into purchasing a few small luncheon plates to use for my meals (there have been psychological studies regarding dinnerware and satiety from meals... smaller, dark solid-colored plates make meals more satisfying apparently)

A bento would definitely be helpful in both regards...it's a new gadget which helps with portion control!

I     Bentos!

I have too much bento stuff but am absolutely addicted!

Once my girls are back at school after the Easter break, I'll be making bento lunches for all of us again, it's just so much fun.

If you're just getting started, check out Justbento.com for literally 1000s of recipes, and also Youtube video 'cooking with dog - bento' (the dog is the host, don't panic!) There's also justhungry.com for great recipes :)

I've been taking my bento sort of on and off for the last year and it has helped so much! I'm more motivated to bring my own lunch because of the cute presentation. My portions are smaller- definitely smaller than the cafeteria at work and smaller than I would have made them otherwise. And I get to control what goes into them so it's all pretty healthy stuff.

Have fun and just a warning, up ahead you have so many fun things you're going to get sidelined by. My current thing is my julienne peeler and making lovely colourful veggie noodles with it!

I'm thinking of getting one. I have a lunch bag that I take to work, but a bento would be nice to cut down on ziploc bags XP
