Ever feel like giving up?

Seriously, does anyone ever just feel like hanging it all up? Been fat my whole life and I'm approaching 27. I'm just thinking, my entire youth was spent being a fat person. It feels impossible. I've been at it for twelve years, now I'm heavier than when I first decided to make a change. I was 224 at 14. Now I'm 26 and 236. That time I was 186 just feels like it never even happened. It was there and BAM fat again.
I don't know anymore...
I'm really not sure how much more I can "keep trying." I don't want to spend my life this way, but it's starting to look like something I'll live with the rest of my life.

I am with you about 5 mins ago. I have been working so hard with nothing to show for it. But I let that "I give up" moment pass and now I am thinking "what do I need to switch up"
I am going to for the 5:2 for a week to see if it kicks up some weight loss. I have been running, cross training, eating better and tracking for weeks and no change. Maybe I make a change and it will change the scale.

I completely understand and when I feel that way I look to my MFP friends that have lost serious weight. one of my friends just hit 100 pounds. I've dieted and lost weight a ton of times and always hit a wall and give up and gain the weight back plus more. This time I've decided I'm not on a diet, I'm trying to figure out how to have a healthy relationship with food and eat like a normal person. my goal is to lose a pound a week. some weeks I lose more, some I gain but overall I'm going down. I repeat all the clichés when I weigh in: slow and steady, it's marathon not a sprint, it took years to get here it'll take a year to lose it, etc. figure out small goals that you can achieve, track every day, work out 5 days a week, anything to keep you moving forward. it will be worth it in the end!0

I am your future self if you do give up Vattz. I hit over 200 lbs. shortly after college, so 21 yrs old. And I only saw south of that once back in 1996. I started MFP for the 4th time weighing 293 lbs. And MFP isn't the only thing I've tried. I've had to cancel dream trips to New Zealand and Hawaii because I was too damn out of shape to do anything once I got there. I've missed out on a LOT of living. That's what happens when you give up.
I am now 52 and I refuse to give up. I can't get my youth back but I can have a great 2nd half, hiking and spending time in the outdoors like I've always wanted and dreamed about. And biking, kayaking, all of it. Don't give up!! Focus on what you want your life to be and go get it.0 -
You might want to make your diary public so people can logically critique your efforts diet wise. No one can help you if they don't know what kind of advice to give based on your actual efforts.....everything else is just feel-good BS that may make you feel better for about 5 minutes but what does that accomplish? Figure out what you need to do and JUST DO IT! Nothing like success to make you feel better!0

27? Dude, you are only 27. I'm 55. I have done this more times than I can count. Have I felt like giving up? Yes. In the end I put my backbone where my wishbone was, dug in, and just did it. You have your whole life in front of you. Do you really want to be my age saying the same thing? It is entirely possible for you to do this and be where you want to be at 30.Then you can have the next 60 years or so to be fabulous. The first 27 will be a learning experience. Take it from me. It's worth it.0

If you have the idea that lots of people do not adjust their eating to maintain their weight, you would be wrong. I have found that thin people paid far more attention to what they were eating and how it affected their weight than I ever did as a obese person. I suspect that you are medicating with food...you have a bad day-you eat. You want pleasure-you eat. You want to forget-you eat. You want to reward yourself- you eat. Get some therapy and change your relationship with food. You have to love you more than food or you will really struggle. Don't give up. You don't want to be my age before you hit rock bottom. I don't often post in the forums, but you describe me pretty much to a tee.
Let it go. Then when you hit 285, see how hard it is to hit 236. Pretty f'n hard and a long task if ya ask me. Take it from experience bud. Take care of it now. Not when your nearing 40. I've felt the way you do. I still feel that way some days. Some weeks even. This is hard work. But the payoff will be huge, not just fat, but your total health. I'm sure you know all the reasons why you should.
Be committed.
Failure will happen, so what? So will the wins. They key is being consistent and doing your best. Giving up shouldn't really be an option. Cliche maybe, but if your not happy now and want to change, how can giving up possibly make anything better? It won't.
Get support. Use it. Be it here or elsewhere. Lose any fears or ego you may have. Jump in. Know your intent and visualize your goal. And don't look back.

If you feel like giving up then maybe you're not on the right path. I was obese way longer than you (25 years of my life) and tried so hard to lose weight, I pushed myself so hard that I quit each and every time. Never lasted more than a month that way and gained all the weight back and then some. What did it for me is not quitting the food I like (and I like a lot of crap) and just focus on the calories... I didn't even exercise. Ask yourself why you quit every time and find a way around it. Every person is different... some are very disciplined and can stick to a controlled diet plan for months and get to their goals. Some of us are just lazy people, but there's hope for everyone.
Portion control is way more sustainable than controlled diet plans. For me this was a change of life style.. not a diet. I just reduced the portions of the food I eat until I got used to it (I'm not gonna lie.. I was hungry the first 2 weeks because I went from a diet of 3500 calories a day to 1200 calories, but you can start at 1600-1800 and still lose weight and feel satiated). Now I can't take the portions I thought were normal when I was obese... I get sick. I think I fixed the way I see food.0
