Ok...so I am new to this whole thing of tracking calories.......first time in my life.....35 years of eating what I want when I want has stopped.

So, I am tracking what I eat....trying to eat clean........and I have started drinking water......about 9 glasses a day.......with what I am tracking as my calorie intake.....I keep getting this message.........

*Based on your total calories consumed for today, you are eating too few calories. Not only is it difficult to receive adequate nutrition at these calorie levels, but you could also be putting your body into starvation mode. Starvation mode lowers your metabolism and makes weight loss more difficult. We suggest increasing your calorie consumption to 1,200 calories per day minimum.

But, what do I do...when I am just not hunger? The water is really keeping me full.....and the doctor has put me on phentermine 30mgs.....so I am just not hunger enough to eat all the calories......

Please help me understand....I don't want to put my body in starvation mode......but the eager to eat is no there on the pills.....and I never feel like I am doing without.....

Any suggestions???????

  • try eating a few things that are slightly more dense in calories (nuts, natural peanut butter, avacados, etc)

Have you shared this concern with your doctor? Considering he's already involved in your journey, he may be able to offer some insight, or possibly reduce your prescription amount. Good luck!
  • Are you working out too? I dont wanna say force yourself but maybe try eating like more raw foods like fruits and veggie maybe....?

That sounds like a tough one, maybe talk with your doc and see what he says. Sounds like your meds are messing with your appetite and slowing down your metabolism.

I too have never counted calories or stepped on a scale as much as I have in the last 6 months lol
Good luck girlie I hope you find a solution that works for you!!
  • I agree with Godsflower... nuts will do the trick!! you'll be surprised how many calories are in a handful of nuts.. and they are full with good fats :)

Don't Panic! I used Phentermine for a long time and I lost a ton of weight with it! I started at 224 and I got down to 138! I am currently at 157.6 because I stopped exercising and went back to eating whenever I wanted to for a few months..don't do that lol!

I didn't eat much of anything on Phen either...actually I was lucky to get in 1000 calories/day. Do your best to get in at least the 1200 calories in as much as possible, but take a daily vitamin too just in case. I used and still use Women's one a day (generic). You really should get in the calories though as much as possible. You don;t want to really mess up your matabolism because you'll need it in good shape when you go off Phen because the hunger does come back! I had major sweet cravings for a long time. There is another website called Phentermine.com, I used that for my entire weight loss journey until recently. There is a lot of support there and many people who can help answer your questions. I don't go there much anymore because it's mostly new people but my screen name there is s_mkalfred. I took Phen off and on (3 times) for 1.5 years. I know a lot about it so feel free to ask if you have anymore questions.

Are you hungry without the phentermine? It sounds like you don't really need it. You absolutely need to eat AT LEAST 1200 calories. What kind of things are you eating? You should be eating more calorie dense things or protein shakes. That will increase your calories without making you feel overfull.

If you keep eating under 1200, you'll stop losing weight. Your body likes to eat!

I am working out....I am doing the Leslie S., Fast 3 miles, Walking at Home....every night.......it's a 45 minute work out.....

The meds are an appetite suppressant......and they are working.......too well I think!!!

Getting use to all the water is a hard thing to do......I didn't drink water unless I was brushing my teeth....LOL......I have cut back to only one 12oz diet coke a day.........

I have been reading other posts......I think I am going to get a couple different bags of nuts for my office desk.......

Next step is talking to the doctor........

The nuts idea is great! I ate lots of trail mix for a long time..it's good for you and has just that tiny bit of swwet from the M &M's! It also has lots of calories for a small amount because of the fats in the nuts...which are good fats!

My first suggestion is getting off the phentermine. You don't need a pill to lose weight.
When I first started I thought that I was having an issue eating all of my 1200 calories too - then I started exercising.
Now I have 1490 and find it hard to stay under that.
You'll find what works for you, up the good fats like the others have said.
    Good luck to you.

You definitely didn't eat too much for lunch. I tend to shoot for around 400-450 calories for lunch. I usually eat about 200 calories for breakfast, so that's good. But maybe more protein? I think your best way to add in calories is to have a morning and afternoon snack. An apple, cheese stick, oatmeal, a few crackers with cheese, all would be great options. If you have about 150 calories for each snack, you'll add 300 more calories to your day and you won't have to eat more at your meals.

In my opinion, you are starving yourself. I interviewed a nutritionist about a year ago, and she said she was uncomfortable telling ANYBODY to eat under 1,700 calories a day. That's for basic bodily functions. Add on exercise, and you need even more.

There is not a consensus, unfortunately, about how many calories you need; however, it does seem that anything under 1,500 is starvation. For weight loss, you should be eating 300-400 calories 5-6X a day, small, nutritious meals spaced throughout the day. Your water intake looks good, so that's a plus. Your lack of hunger may be your body responding to you starving yourself.

Here's the funny thing about all of this: Your body when put in starvation mode will tell your fat cells to HANG ON to every bite you eat, so you'll actually end up sabotaging yourself. Then when you go back to eating whatever is "regularly" for you, you'll gain even more weight, and guess what, it won't be muscle, it will be fat.

And about the pills -- is this the "phen" in "phen-fen" or however it was spelled that was taken off the market years ago for causing heart damage? If you are morbidly obese, you MAY consider these pills. If not, run, do not walk to the nearest trash can and toss those suckers out.

Good luck to you. It sounds like you are determined, which is half the battle.
