Servings when entering a new recipe

Good morning! When I enter a new recipe into MFP to find out the calorie count how do I figure out the serving size and how many servings there are? Im sure this has been answered before but I couldnt find it. TIA! :flowerforyou:

    for me it depends...

For a pasta dish I recently entered I cooked all the ingrediants...and weighed them all together in the dish before I cooked it...(pasta was precooked) and put the total grams in and broke servings into 100g.

Sometimes the recipes have the servings...ie cookies usually say makes 32 cookies.

for my banana bread I entered the ingrediants, cooked it and weighed the entire loaf...and divided the loaf by 100g servings.

So basically I guess I enter the ingrediants and weigh the resulting complete dish usually post cooking, divide that by 100 and that is the number of servings...which btw can be changed at a later date...

That kind of depends on you.

I generally make my servings based on weight. I'll weigh the entire finished product - say its 2500 grams. I'll make the recipe 10 servings of 250 grams. Then when I eat some of it, I'll weigh my portion. Say I have 400 grams. Its 400/250 = 1.6 servings.

This is also what I generally do. I like easy math.

I'd say the main detail is label your recipes so the servings are easy to recognize. 1 serving is vague, 100 grams is not.

Thank you for asking this, I have only recently begun entering recipes and have the same issue figuring out portions. I'll weigh out portions as some here have suggested :-) Great advice on here!

I Batch cook meals and freeze portions in containers when serving up dinner so I know how many portions each recipe of mine makes. My portion is smaller than my OH's so I log 0.75 of 1 portion in my diary :)
