Need a new goal

Last weekend I ran my first 8k and it was great! I'm thinking about doing a 10k in the fall but for at least a couple months I'd like to work on a non-running goal. I won't stop running, I just don't want it to be my focus. I use the weight machines and I'd like to move to the free weights but I need a concrete goal, otherwise I might get lazy during workouts. Any suggestions?

Strong Lifts are a good option- Free program online.

Its a free weight program easy enough to follow- I also run 2-3x per week while doing the program.

Just looked at that site and it's good but I feel very intimidated. I feel like I would need someone to watch me and coach me or I'd get injured. I want to do it but I'm so nervous! It's not like starting out when I was running. Also what would be my tangible goal? I understand getting stronger and increasing muscle/decreasing fat but what's the "finish line"? What is the moment or something to look forward to with weightlifting? Does that make sense?

As long as you start slow and make sure your form is good, you're not likely to get injured.

My strength training goals are concrete and performance-based. For example I'd like to be strong enough to do chin-ups. Or do squats with weight heavier than my sister. Etc.

I started jogging for that reason (new goal/challenge). I'm a fan of yoga for the same reason. There are so many poses at all different levels. For example, I wasn't able to do a back bend (from laying down) a couple months ago, and now I can hold it easily. Next step is to be able to do it from a standing position.

Never thought about yoga, I could definitely work on my flexibility but I can't take any classes right now. Strength training it is! I guess what I need to do is just get in the gym and start working on it. Figure out where I am and where I could be. Still kind of scared about injuries but I'll start easy and slow and try to find some in person training.
