How can you "flex" calories on MFP

I'm relatively new to MFP -- well, I've had my account for years, and I've fiddled with it, but only recently am I really starting to use it seriously.

Anyway, I was in weight watchers years and years ago, and I remember you could "flex" your calories. That is, if you ate under your calories one day, you could use a portion of those later in the week, etc.

I'm SURE there are tons of topics about this in the forums, so I apologize for repeat posting... but I just can't figure out the right search terms to find them.

I guess what I want to know is, since MFP doesn't have anything like this built in, has anyone figured out a system to allow for some flexibility in their calories? And if there are some great threads on this already written, by all means, please point me in that direction.

I don't think it has. Although I use the mobile version of MFP to track my weekly average. There you can see how you're doing during the current week. I do save some calories from Monday to Saturday and eat some back on Sunday.

If you go on the smartphone app and go to the "Nutrition" tab under the main menu, then click on "weekly" you can view how many calories you're averaging for the week and that can help you flex calories, that's the only thing really close to what you're talking about. There's no way to take calories from one day and add them to another.

One easy way for you to 'flex' your calories is to take a notepad, either a physical one or a file on your computer. Starting Monday, write how far under your calorie goal you were each day on the notepad. On Friday, add up the week's days -- that'll tell you how much extra calories you have banked for the weekend.

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone else did this, and if they had any guidelines. For example, I would never eat more banked calories in a day than what my target calories for a maintenance diet would be, and I can't keep banked calories indefinitely, etc. But it would be nice if I had some science to back it up!

thanks for the tips about the mobile app, I'll have to check that out. I wonder why this isn't on the main site? I'd love it if it were!
