Soup Maker - Any Good

Hi All
Since winter is coming (I'm in Australia) I was thinking I may buy one of the `soup makers' advertised.
Has anyone tried them and more importantly are they any good.
I'm wondering if the $99 Target one does the job as well as say the $229 Soup Mate Pro or whatever it is.
I know making soup is easy anyway, but I don't cook so this is the next best thing!
Any recommendations (I'm in Australia as I said and choices are limited), and hints or recipes?
Thanks
Ernie

How about a crock pot?
Its much cheaper.
I had to get rid of mine when I moved but I am sort of wanting one again. It makes great stews and thick soups - that I find more filling than creams or broths!0 -

I have a slow cooker, which I may try - my problem is planning, but I may try it for a thick soup, maybe cream of cauliflower (with not much cream etc!).
I didn't think of it for soups, but I do use it for simple stews and casseroles.

I'm not familiar with what this is but it sounds intriguing.0

I've seen the soup makers advertised too - frankly I'd see how you go making soup in the slow cooker first and see if you like it. I do soup in mine in winter in large batches and freeze it in individual portions. If you wanted something thicker just wait till it cools and run it through a food processor or blender.0

I don't really understand why you would need this appliance. Making soup in a regular pot is so easy. Check out cooking light.com's 15 minute soup recipes. You can make blended soups by using a hand blender at the end. Easy peasy.0
