So I have decided that after having four kids and a c-section, I really want to get a tummy tuck and some lipo suction in that area as well. I can lose weight but I never lose the skin that hangs over. UGH. I hate it. Has anyone considered this or done it before? What is the best route to take to re-search a doctor? I live in San Diego CA and there are so many different doctors in this area.

If you have done it, how much time did it take to recoup? Was it super painful? Did you have any negative impacts from doing this?

Are you happy with your results?

Any feedback is welcome.

Feel free to add me as a friend as well.

Yes I am considering getting a tummy tuck. The extra skin is never going away! I am a nurse and I have co wokers that were back working after two weeks! Why not reward yourself for not only having kids but having to go through a c-section and plus loosing the weight! Go for it!

I had a couple of (male) friends do it.

One was severely overweight. He did the tummy tuck and developed blood clots that went to his heart. It nearly killed him. Now he takes blood thinners and the like because it damaged his heart. He was 35 at the time. It didn't stop him from regaining most of the weight either.

The other was an aerobics junky who wanted a six pack but his heritage (Italian) didn't tend to produce six packs. His doc made him lose 40 lbs before he could get the procedure. He wore medical padding for weeks and after the fact, he was not very happy with the result. It got rid of that little padding he had over his abs, but along with that came scars. It was done by a plastic surgeon and he felt that for the money he paid, the result should not have advertised that he got surgery.

There are some realities involved. There's another thread on this site that shows some of the cosmetic surgeries people have got and what the scars look like. It's worth the finding, if you dig a bit. Some of them are pretty gross.

I just had mine done in Sept of this year.. So I am 3 months Post op.. I love it. The work was awesome. I also live in SD!
As far a recoop I say the first 3 weeks are the most intense ones. I couldnt stand up straight or walk for long periods of time the first week but it gets better. I didnt get any pain at all... The only thing that was painful was when they took out that tube out.. (it suppose to clean the inside) lol.. Anyway I say go for it! I have 2 kids and lost about 60lbs so I so needed that...
  • My only advice is to find the right doc. There are botch jobs of course. But if you get the right doctor that cares
You will feel like a million BUCKs. I want it done too-in a few years though, so I've started my research now. I don't want lipo but I do want skin reduction around my abdomen and a boob job. I can't wait!

I worked in surgery before I decided to stay home with my daughter. I was on the plastic surgery team and Have seen plenty of Tummy tucks! I say go for it. I am going to get one my self when I get down to my goal weight. After having two kids your skin just doesn't go back. Look for a surgeon who is double board certified and ask for client references and look thru his portfolio.

I've watched a lot of Plastic Surgery Before and After and other medical shows and I have to say, even the best doctors aren't great about the scares for big procedures like this. They just use staples to close the incision, they aren't careful with tiny sutures to make the scar as invisible as possible. And even if they are careful, it all depends on how your body produces scars and how careful you are while it's healing. I worked for surgeons and had to have a small lump removed from my upper arm. He was extremely careful to make sure the scar would be almost invisible, but I was in a dance company at the time so there was no way to prevent it from stretching a little. Plus, I'm Mexican and tend to get big keloid scars no matter what.

With some tummy tuck procedures done by the right doctors the scar can be placed very low, below the bikini line. Just take a look at Kate Gosselin's tummy! But, you will have a scar, no matter what.

Any plastic surgeon who uses staples is going to produce scars. All the surgeons I worked for used many many small sutures.

The other thing is that with all surgical procedures there are significant risks of infection, complications with anesthesia, even death. These risks are present with medically necessary procedures as well as cosmetic procedures. Deciding to have any kid of surgery requires a lot of thought and careful consideration.

And for those considering breast implants, lifts, or other reconstruction: make sure you have one doctor working on you, not two. If you have a team there is greater risk that you will not come out with symmetrical results.
  • Well I have already made the decision to do it. I already have a scar from the c-section that i had. I think the benefits will out weigh the reasons not to do it. Any thoughts on a good website to research doctors in the San Diego area? Anyone have a doctor in this area that they have used?

i would love a boob job and tummy tuck as well... thiings are not "hanging" the way they used to.... but I cant justify the cost or money in my mind. I figure the only one that really sees is my huband and he likes the way i look now (or at least he says he does)

I would just be so afraid that something would go wrong.....

but i know lots of people who have had nose jobs and boob jobs and been very happy.
