I lost 40lbs on medifast in 4months. I kept it off for 2years until I got hurt. I've also done optifast and lost 58lbs in 12 weeks. The key is keeping the weight off!! The problem with diets like this is you aren't learning healthy new life style habbits which keeps the weight off long term. I had many health factors that made me gain it back but in the end it was going back to the old way of eating.
Things to remember about these diets that are so low on food:
1. never wait more than 4 hours to eat, when you wait you get super hungry and tend to cheat
2. if you get hungry figure out is this mental or actual physical hunger it if it mental go find something to do... exercise, knit, puzzles, computer etc if it is physical hunger: is it time to eat? if not drink water or hot tea or coffee hot liquids trick your body into thinking you have eaten and will help you satisfy the hunger...try getting the soups
3. exercise: I never did it but i'm told it really really helps
4. water water water... water helps sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much drink it, embrace it, let it be your best friend... if you don't like water drink tea or flavored water
5. only weigh yourself once a week same time of day wearing same type of clothes..if you weigh everyday it will drive you nuts and discourage you and if you weigh at night that isn't a good idea. Remember water bottles weigh 16.9oz so each you drink your weight goes up for the night scale best to weigh in the morning after you have gone to the bathroom.
Good luck let me know if you need hints and tricks0 -
Medifast starts you off at 800 calories a day, I would not recommend it.0

Seriously? How would I lift? I would pass out. Why would anyone want to put themselves through that kind of deprivation?
Sorry OP not getting at you but just a bit shocked at the low calories.0 -
I was just wondering i was looking online and seen their results0

Actually medifast starts you off about 1000-1200 calories depending on your lean and green meal, optifast is 800 calories but medically monitored. For the first few weeks you are to only walk 15mins a day for exercise then slowly increase when your body gets used to the low calories.
Normally these diets are used for obese people to get a quick jump start because rapid weight loss is a good motivation to people but to continue on these diets for a long term is not the best thing for you.0 -
I lost but i stayed hungry. I would not do it again. It's costly too. But I did lose over 100 pounds on it. But gained it back.
That was my fault though.0 -
Watch closely - I will show you just how Medifast works.

Or you could save your money and use this site as it's intended. Set a reasonable calorie goal, eat real food and track it. Exercise. Simple.0

I did Medifast about two years ago. It's expensive (IMO), and I did not care for the taste of the food. I did lose about 10 lbs, I gained it back because I didn't really change any habits. When you do Medifast you pretty much know it's not going to be something for the rest of your life, so if you go into it with that mindset it could work for you. My boyfriend also did Medifast at the same time, he had more success and lost 40lbs, he did gain about 20 back. Neither of us do medifast anymore. I've lost my 60lbs by completely changing my eating habits this time around.0

I have been doing the Medifast plan since May 20, 2013 and I've lost 96 pounds. My goal is 100 which I'll reach very soon. I found the program to be easy to follow and, because the weight loss was consistent and quick, I stayed motivated. I also took the time to learn portion control, to make better food choices (when you can only eat 1000 calories per day, every calorie counts) and to appreciate the lean and green meal by eating slowly and truly enjoying it. I lost most of the weight without adding any exercise. I began working with a personal trainer in January and feel 30 years younger. As far as costs, Medifast was about $300 or so per month. I know that I spent at least that much on wine, pizza and take-out lunches every month. Now I carry an insulated lunch pack with me everywhere that has my favorite replacement meals, (protein bars mostly) and bottles of water. I should mention that I'm a 57 year-old woman who has been obese for the past 35 years. I made a serious commitment to follow this plan and have stayed true to it everyday, even during the holidays. I eat out several times every month and happily choose lean proteins and vegetables. You can change your relationship with food on this plan. Medifast is an extreme calorie restrictive slightly ketogenic program that was my 'now or never' option before undergoing bariatric surgery. I am grateful everyday that this program gave me back my life. I only wish that I had tried it sooner. I had tried almost every other diet plan/program in the past. In July I began logging my food and activity using MFP. I have logged faithfully ever since and it has been an invaluable tool in this process. I also use the Withings Pulse activity tracking device.
Everyone has to find their own road on the journey to a healthy and fit life, for me it was Medifast. It was worth every penny.1
