Looking for active and supportive Friends!

Hey everyone...my name is Courtney, I'm a single 28 year-old living in Alaska, and this is *going* to be my last "attempt" at losing "the" weight. I have about 100 pounds to lose, total...and have a timeframe in mind to lose it in...that is aggressive but doable. I love to cook, and recreate my favorite foods in a healthier, lower calorie way. I HATE to exercise...I mean HATE it ( I'd rather not eat for several days than exercise) but...I'm working super hard on fixing that...and am hoping to find some friends here who are actively involved here on the site daily....and working on losing weight or getting fit. If so...please add me! Would love to meet people who have lost significant amounts of weight ( or are losing) and who have gained athleticism and fitness along the way.
Thanks in advance for your replies and friend requests, and look forward to being of support along your journey!

-Courtney

Dear Courtney, please read the 'so you're new here' topic in the 'getting started' forum. It is very helpful!

Don't say it's your last attempt, nobody should ever give up on themselves. It's just silly.

Don't set time frames, we are all here to change our lifestyle. Gradually.

So just be positive and keep going. You can do it. A lot of people before did this and so can you!

Exercises can be boring. Find an activity you like. Dancing? Skiing? Skating? Ball games? For me it was FitStar app, I love their sessions, they are fun. And the app itself is motivating. Anyway, don't say you hate exercises, it's not the mindset you need. Be open to new experiences and try different activities. You'll find something good for you.

In general enjoy your fit journey. Enjoying is very important for your success.

    Good luck!

Courtney, I know exactly how you feel. I'll share a little bit about myself here. I am a personal trainer, a health coach, and an athlete. At the age of 31, I continue to improve my athletic performance, and I feel that I still have yet to reach my peak, even when I thought I did. I feel like I'm about 20, and very able to move. My energy is through the roof. I will be honest when I say I didn't always feel this way, and I didn't always want to exercise. In fact, I didn't care much about it at one point. I hated it. I never even needed to lose weight, and ate pretty much what I wanted. What drove me to do it? I saw that at the age of 25, my health was deteriorating. I wasn't overweight, but I was underweight...extremely underweight and with a high body fat percentage for my weight. At 5'11" I weighed as low as 139 lbs., and had a 15% body fat. I was pretty frail. I thought I was in great shape, but I was in denial. I was wrong. I became really depressed, and was really feeling sorry for myself. So, I had to do something about that. One day, I decided to get myself on a regimen, and even though I didn't want to, I did it because I knew the importance of it...and I wanted to play baseball. I did it, and it was the best decision I've ever made as far as my health was concerned. Fast forward six years later, I'm at 160 lbs., and my body fat is at 5.4%. I am in the best shape of my life, and honestly think it can be better. I still hate doing BURPEES, but I love the challenge it presents. No matter how difficult my journey was, I never gave up. I kept going. I did it all on my own.

My point is this, you have to want it bad enough, and if it makes you uncomfortable, chances are you will benefit from it. It will make you stronger, and not just physically. This isn't so much about being fit as it is about making a lifestyle change. It helped me, and it helped my clients, many of whom who have been in your shoes. Please don't say that it's going to be your last attempt to lose weight. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself. You owe it to yourself to become healthier. No one ever said it was easy, but I promise, in the end, it will be worth it. We're all here to show support. I can give you advice if you ever need it. I said it on here a few times, and I'll say it again: There is no goal that can't be reached. Stay positive, plug into your nutrition plan and develop a training regimen, and find a regimen that will challenge you, and one that you will enjoy. Stay hungry. You know you have a goal to reach. You have to want it bad enough to get there. You gotta be hungry! And have fun! If you're not having fun, you won't get anywhere. Finally, don't you ever give up. No matter how hard it is, keep going. Never, ever give up!

Thank you all for the support and encouragement! By this being my "last" attempt...I meant that I want to actually do it this time...vs. talking about it to death and then "trying" again down the road. :-)
I am working on getting more active...signed up for Daily Burn and am attempting to do a workout each morning before work.
I have some serious weight related health issues as of late...and my doctors are heavily pushing weight loss surgery as my best option. I'm out to prove that I don't have to go that route. :-)
Thank you all for taking the time to respond!

Hi Courtney! I was a totally inactive person until about 6 or so years ago when I started training in Tae Kwon Do. I struggled a lot with increasing physical activity in the beginning but stuck with it & it started to become fun. Finding something that you really enjoy doing is key. I still have a lot of weight to lose, but I'm significantly more fit now. I sent you a friend request!
