No period, no weight loss in 2 months

Getting frustrated. For a year, I've only lost weight the week following my period, and now I haven't got one in 2 months!

The month before that, I lost 2.5 lbs, and I ate over my TDEE 4 times or something. I increased my calories by 100, started being a bit more active, and nothing since. But my period hasn't come in 2 months now, I have no sign it's coming (been bleeding slightly on and off the whole time, which is a major PITA, and no cramps whatsoever), I have been going over my goal more because I'm randomly starving, but still eating 200 below my TDEE in average (I weigh all my food, including packaged stuff except yogurt cups)... no weight loss.

I'm getting incredibly frustrated. Heck I lost one pound at some point but I'm back where I was 2 months ago now (that's after getting a stomach bug and eating way too little for 3 days). The last time I skipped a period in September, I lost nothing that month, then it came back and I lost 6 lbs in a week. So I know it's linked... This is totally disheartening. When I mentioned my irregular cycles to my GYN she just shrugged it off...

My body fat is around 22% so there's no way it's because I'm too skinny or something. I typically don't believe in plateaus or that your body tells you when you're going to low compared to what you should be (I'm 5'5", 136 lbs right now, I have a large frame but still, that shouldn't be too low, just look at my pic!)... but I'm starting to wonder if it's a way for my body to say stop or something? I just turned 36, I highly doubt it could be menopause.

Just venting I guess. Sigh.

There are many reasons for not getting your period. It doesnt have ti be ties to your weigh. I would go to the Doctor. I have endometriosis and it got so bad my period stopped. I had a lap/hysteroscopy and it came back. See your Doctor.

I learned a couple of months ago that I became POST-menopausal at age 42-- no real symptoms. My period just stopped. The doctor said that it's purely due to genetics and that my diet/exercise would have had no impact. My mom actually went POST-menopausal at age 36 with no symptoms. So you never know. I had a female hormone blood panel done.

LOL no, I should have mentioned that I guess, I can't be pregnant.

I had horrible periods until I lost weigh, then they were very light, it's all I know. I guess I'll give it another month or two then go see a gynecologist... it's not that I miss them, but considering I can't seem to lose weight without them, it blows!

Well, it could be one of two things -- you're pregnant. Some women don't gain much the early months of pregnancy (after all it's just a tiny thing) -- I actually lost or stayed the same during the first 3 months for my first two babies. The other is perimenopause. This is the pre-menopause stage of a woman's body and can start as early as the late 30s. I began perimenopause around age 38, with the opposite symptoms -- very heavy bleeding and bleeding between periods, then a month or two with no periods. I had all kinds of invasive medical tests, then talked to my mom, which I should have done in the first place. She went through the same thing and stopped periods completely by age 43, the same age I eventually stopped menstruating. Go to your ob-gyn and get tested. There is a hormone level FSH which rises during perimenopause which is usually the tip-off that that is the cause.

It could be way more than "one of two things". There are all kinds of things that can affect women's cycles.

Based on the irregularity, that you said you've had "horrible" periods when you were heavy, and that you really struggled to lose weight, you might ask your doctor about Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome. (PCOS). Those three things all kind of fit with PCOS.

As for the weight loss now. You look great and seem to be kind of in the middle of a healthy weight for your size. If you have a large frame like you say, maybe you are at a good weight and you should focus on maintaining. Maybe focus on building lean muscle and losing some more fat rather than the number on the scale if what you're looking for is to be a certain size?

As for early menopause. Unless your mother or another female relative in her family suffered it (or you had chemotherapy or something of that serious nature as a child or young adult), it's pretty unlikely to be that. But you can be tested to be sure.

I'm guess it's some kind of hormonal issue, since that could change your period and also impact weight.

Another thing it could be is that little "rascal" the thyroid. If it is a little low it can cause havoc in all manor of way including periods. It can slow weight loss but I would be ecstatic were I your weight and that is at 5'3.5". May I suggest you read up as much as you can on this because there may be other symptoms you are hardly aware of that could go with it. Also if you were to be dealing with a thyroid issue you need to know as much as you can. Many doctors even in the USA do not treat to the person they go by test numbers and it is more complicated than many doctors give it credit for.

I have assumed you are in the US which has a good thyroid support site but the Australian Thyroid site is also good may be more so. The UK one gives more information than the British doctors are able to treat. What ever the cause turns out to be, be prepared for a battle. It is your life, your health.

All the very best. Hope you get to the bottom of your issues asap. Most of all take care

As of today I am 11 days late and was having in between period bleeding as well. I too went to the dr for my yearly and at that point I had been about 5 days late for my period. She did a pregnancy test, my yearly pap and chalked it up to hormones and wasn't concerned at all. I've been keeping a cycle diary for about a yr now and this is the first time I've actually been this long without a period since an ED I battled yrs ago. I took my own prego test this morning (negative) so I'm just as lost as you as to what the heck could be going on. I know you said yours can't be pregnancy but the premenopausal thing may be the issue. My nana was 38 when she first went through it. It'll be nice to see what others think on the topic and of any similar stories.

If your doctor just shrugged off your concerns, it's time to find another doctor. There could be any number of health reasons why you're not losing weight and having issues with your cycle, and a full workup physical with bloodwork is the best starting point. If your gyno won't do this, maybe your general doctor will.

Good luck, and I hope you find an answer.

There's an herb called Chaste tree that might help you.
