Is my diet too harsh?

Hi sexylosers
I have a little problem here and need your advice:

When I wheighed myself two weeks ago the scale showed me a scary 98 Kilos (about 200 pounds). Having always struggled with my weight I tought it was time for me to start losing weight.
Now the problem is I lost 5 Kilos (about 11pounds) in just two weeks and according to what I read on internet this may slow down my metabolism. The thing is that I don't feel like I eat that little. Here is a typycal day:

Breakfast: two tablespoons of oatmeal cooked with half glass of milk and a fruit
Launch: some veggies with a portion of chiken (100gr) + 1apple
Souper: 2slices of thin whole wheat bread (30gr) + one boiled egg+ green tea.

I've complitely eliminated added sugar and fat (except sometimes 1 teaspoon of olive oil for cooking)

So according to MFP I'm only eating 600 or 700 calories per day. So what am I doing wrong? maybe I don't count my calories correctly? realy need your help guys

According to your diary you are eating less than that, way too low.

For real? You're asking if 600-700 calories is too harsh? That is less than is required for a small child. You are essentially starving yourself and losing lean body mass if you continue to eat like that.

You need to triple your intake, at least. There is no way you are getting the nutrition you need with what you are consuming. If you keep it up you will start to see changes in your skin, hair loss, and a whole lot of other negative results.

Two tablespoons of oatmeal?! A normal serving is 1/2 cup dry.

so your goal is 900 calories...yah no.

the first amount of weight is a lot of water weight so your metabolism has not slowed yet but you are on your way...

You do eat too little...and eliminating sugar is not necessary unless you have medical reasons for it.

So what are you doing wrong...aiming for too small of a calorie goal, logging inaccurately (1 serving of turkey =34calories) how big is that serving?

You're eating far too less. How long are you going to be able to carry on with this before you go back to old habits? Stop thinking of weight loss as a short term fix.

Fat is a healthy and necessary part of any diet. Heck, food is a healthy and necessary part of any diet. You're going to do one of 2 things: 1 - burn yourself out before you reach your goal weight or 2 - reach your goal weight and then gain it all back.

Read the sexy pants linked above and eat FOOD. Eat food like you would want to eat for the rest of your life, but in smaller quantities. Smaller quantities, not minuscule quantities.

I'd starve to death on your diet.

Edit: My 6-year-old eats more than that.

Please consider seeking the help of a registered dietitian. He or she can educate you about proper nutrition and can help you set calorie and macronutrient goals that will help you to lose weight while ensuring you're getting enough fuel to stay healthy. The way you're eating now is extremely dangerous to your health and will only cause problems for you if you continue with it.

Sounds like you need to speak with a doctor or a nutrion specialist.

You have two choices. You can continue eating like this. You will lose weight you will also not gain adequate nutrition and at some point either end up in Hospital or go the opposite way and eat all the weight you have lost back on plus a lot more.

Or you could use your common sense because I'm sure somewhere you realise that this is not good other wise you wouldn't have posted. Use the tools that the wonderful people at MFP towers have provided. Put your data into mfp and set a loss of 1 pound a week and follow those calories while eating any exercise ones back. You can then eat nice foods at a reasonable deficit and lose weight slowly and steadily and have a good chance of keeping it off. You do not need to eliminate fats or sugar as with anything just keep things in moderation.

So that's it your two choices hopefully you'll choose the healthy way as I hate to see anyone end up in Hospital

Thanks to all of your for your replies and consideration

I wasn't so sure of what I was doing that's what I posted here. Once I begun my diet I got kind of panaroid about my nutrition but now that I read all your replies I know I can add little things to my diet without guilt.

Balancing is realy hard for me since I have always been over eating, I'm still learning how to manage weight and I'm sure I'l find all the help I need here.

    Thanks again

Eat more, Train hard.....you will end up where you want weight wise and actually look good too.....whats the point in losing weight if you cant even enjoy life.....living on 600 to 700 calories a day is plain torture. You are going to look like crap and feel like crap losing weight on that low of calories for an extended period of time. 1200 should be the absolute minimum calories.

I understand feeling desperate to lose weight, and I understand wanting to get that weight off quickly.

But if you want to have long-term success, you need to think long-term, which means building healthy habits that will last you a lifetime. Food is not the enemy. Read the sexy pants link posted above and learn how to fuel your body appropriately.

I started at 235 pounds. It's taken me about 16 months to lose 72 pounds, but I'm the smallest and fittest I've ever been. I also have no desire to quit, because I eat what I like, I eat a lot of food, and I fuel my body to maintain my current lifestyle and meet my goals. My diary is open if you want to see how and what I eat on a regular basis.

Be kind to yourself, and be patient. Put the time and effort into doing this the right way and you will have lasting success.

    I stopped at "2T oatmeal & a fruit"

    That is a snack! Haha

In all seriousness, my 4yr old who is inactive because she has spastic quad cerebral palsy eats more than you!!! Does that help you see what's wrong with your diet??

    Listen to everyone above....
    Eat more.
    Drink enough water.
    Move more.
    Meet your macros.
    Weigh & log it all!!

Thanks for your advices, I thin I should also buy some measurement tools so I can be sure of the quantities I'm eating. Also If you know some measurement equivalences (with spoons, glaces, etc) that would be so helpful

I know everyone else has already told you this, but eat more, for one. You need to eat at LEAST 1200 calories a day to prevent yourself from starving, and probably more if you want to have a liveable lifestyle change. You don't want to diet, because as soon as you quit "dieting" you'll go right back to 200lbs. Instead, shoot for losing about a pound (maybe 2) a week, and make it a lifestyle choice. If you want to have, say, a cheeseburger on occasion, you can HAVE it, but just be accountable and use moderation when you do. Also, incorporate some exercise in your life, even if it's just walking for a half hour to an hour a day. And if you do that, you won't have to cut calories as harshly. Good luck to you, I know it's a hard journey and 200lb is a very scary number to see. You can get there, just do it the right way! :)

STOP! Take a deep breath and give yourself a hug. Then eat the same way you'd want your teenage daughter to eat (pretending if you do not have one). Would you want her to damage herself? Of course not! Show yourself the same care and concern!

As everyone else said, yes you need to eat more.

As far as measuring your food, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be as accurate as possible. You'll want to get a digital food scale, and weigh in grams if possible. Usually I only use ounces for weighing meat, and then round up. Cups and spoons have too much variance, and can be way off.

Yes way too harsh. My 18 month old granddaughter eats more than 2 tablespoons of oatmeal at a time.

You don't have to cut out sugar or fat, eat what you ate before just in smaller portions, but more than 900 calories a day.

Please read the sexypants link and this one:

    a newborn baby needs around 500 cals/day....

OP please take notice of everyone who's telling you that you need to feed your body properly to succeed at this...
  • Way too low. You need to eat more for sure....and please, do some research on healthy fats. Fat is not to be feared...healthy fats contribute to weight loss and good cholesterol, not to mention they are very healthy for you! How much you are eating is not.
