SUB 60 10k - GOAL ACCOMPLISHED

Saturday was the Crescent City Classic 10k in New Orleans, Louisiana. Had not done a 10k in 5 years, since the last time I ran the CCC. But been crossfiting since FEB 2013 and started running again in January! The week before the race I had only run 1 mile after some hip issues due to a nasty crossfit workout. Actually the fault wasn't the workout, it was me pushing myself and not scaling it.
Hoped that the extra rest would out weigh the lack of training. IT WAS!
Saturday was full sun and in the 60/70's during the race. Did it alone and I think that worked in my favor. I was just competing with my self. To note my last three 6.2 mile training runs (only three at that specific distance in the last 4 weeks) were 1hr 17 mins, 1hr 9 mins, 1 hr 5 mins. But my 5k race time a few weeks ago (trail and under water) was 30:48.
So I had two goals. Under 63 would make me happy. Under 60 would be my super happy goal. A stretch but what the hell. Well the race was packed all 6.2 miles. Had to run on the sidewalk for atleast half of the race. Up and down curbs. Bob and weave all the way. Ugh I was pretty irritated with all the walkers ahead of me since they definitely started in the wrong time group. At the half was point I was just under 30 mins. SCORE!!!! But the last mile was ugly. I felt funky, tingly and gross.
Finally saw the finish line with about .25 to go.... Running app said 57 something. Holy crap I can do this. Finish at 59:29. Super goal achieved!!!! I'm thrilled with the entire experience and my progress since January when I really started training again. One more race currently planned on Sunday. A 5k so I can finally get my sub30 !!!!! Very excited.
I am enjoy the hell out of running, crossfit and MFP right now. Hope to continue that enthusiasm through the summer. After this race I will go back to half - marathon training. This week just shorter runs.

nice I have yet to go all out on a 10K. I always run half of it with my 10 year old Nephew and he is just a little slow. but I can do a 10K in 70min give or take a couple. maybe one day i'll go out by myself on a weekend and see what my 10K time is.0

I ran the CCC Saturday as well and finished in 1:10:16. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, just perfect for racing. You are so right about dodging all those pesky walkers. I think my time would have been a little better if it weren't for that. However, it being my first 10-K, I'm pretty proud and ready to do another. Congratulations on achieving a goal!0
