HRM Calorie burn overestimated?

I have been using Polar FT60 since a week now. I feel like its overestimating my calorie burn.

I am 6'1'' and 89 kgs (196 lbs). After warm up (some jumping jacks and stretching) when i get on treadmill my heart rate reading is about 100 and during running at 8 kmph it reaches a maximum of 176. My resting Hear rate is about 80-90.

On a cardio day where I do Running, Elliptical and Cycling for 40-50 minutes as per gym machines and MFP I would have burned about 400-500 calories but my HRM shows around 700-800 calories!!

Now I am confused which one to consider. All this time I was thinking MFP was overestimating my burns

Have you checked the settings on your HRM to be sure the reflect your age? I have a Polar and it is set for my age, and weight. It is what I always use and feel it is pretty accurate.

If you have been tracking your food and exercise closely, just look over your reports and check, have you been losing weight at the rate you expect too using the numbers you were before? If so, those were probably accurate. If you were losing more, then the HR monitor is probably more accurate.

Does it give you net or gross calories?

If your resting HR is 80-90, I imagine your active HR can get pretty high causing you to burn quite a bit, especially if you're holding that 176 for a long period of time. My resting is around 55-60 and I don't usually hit 170 unless I'm sprinting or hill climbing. My final calorie burn is always lower than MFP.

I use the Polar FT7 and find it pretty good it is usually more than MFP but les than the cross trainer at the gym. I'm real happy with my HRM

Thanks this helps. Considering this I am going with HRM calorie burn :flowerforyou:
