Hello all,

My name is Lauren and I am currently at my heaviest weight ever--190 lbs / 5'3"
I am young and I am going off to university in London, England this upcoming september and I want to get back to where I was, and then some confidence-wise. I have had a hard time losing weight and since the beginning of my weight-loss journey in february, I have actually gained 10 lbs. I need inspiration and most importantly, I need HELP.

My plan is to lose 70 pounds by september 2014, do y'all think it's possible?

My current diet that I started TODAY (april 22nd 2014) looks a little like this (today's example only):

breakfast: green tea, banana
snack: 1 cup almonds
lunch: cobb salad (chicken, mixed greens, bacon bits, hard boiled egg, avocado, red and yellow peppers, snap peas, mushrooms, cucumber)
snack: protein shake
dinner: hard boiled egg, 2 pieces of bacon

My current workout plan that I started YESTERDAY (april 21st 2014) looks like this:

Monday: Walk at 3.5 +1.5 incline - 30 mins
HIIT - 20 mins

Tuesday: Warm-up walk - 3 mins
Walk at 3.5 +0 incline - 2 mins
Run at 5.2 +0 incline - 2mins
(Repeat walk/run x10)
Cool-down walk - 2 mins

Wednesday: Warm-up walk - 5 mins
HIIT x 10 (1 min ea)
Stairs - 3 mins
(Repeat HIIT/stairs 6 times)
Cool-down walk - 5 mins

Thursday: Tuesday's workout but x6 instead of x10

Friday: Monday's workout

Sat/sun: 30 min walk around neighbourhood

So any input? Any advice? Add me as a friend I'd love to have the motivation and join the community
I will take all the help I can get and I appreciate any/all advice I am offered!

If anyone has gone through a similar experience I'd love to hear how you kept motivated, what you did during the workout time to keep yourself going, tips on how to stay on healthy eating, etc etc.

Thanks guys :)

How many calories per day is that? It doesn't seem like much. 70lb by Sept is about 17lb per month. That seems too much to me for you to feel good and avoid loose skin that comes with quick loss. I'd say your profile indication to do it by the end of the year is more realistic and sustainable.

I agree. You're not eating enough. If you dont eat enough to satisfy yourself, you wont stick to it! Plus you'll get sick! You need to try and stick to at least 1200 cal net per day (I reckon you ate about 600 today?) so you're nutritionally sound and able to have the energy/fuel to exercise etc

And yes, be realistic. 17lbs a month is a lot to ask for!! You should aim for 2lbs per week, although the first month should see you lose more than that as it's mostly water weight.

Good luck, and get get down on yourself. There's no easy way to do this!! But being consistent and keeping up a bright spirit will realise results :flowerforyou:

So about how many calories is that per day???I have eaten more for breakfast, then your whole day! Lol
Anyway, that's a lot of weight to lose by sept. I don't set time frames with my goals, I just work every day to achieve them, no matter how long it takes. sometimes when people set unrealistic goals, then can't achieve them by that time, they get discouraged and give up! Look at it like a lifestyle change, and make your goals realistic . Would that daily diet be sustainable for the long haul?

I think eating as little as you are you might lose the weight but I don't know if you will be able to keep it off cause once you eat carbs again your going to gain the weight back. I think if you lose half that 35 pounds by Sept with exercise and healthy eating you will look and feel great. I started 209 and I am now 196 and it took me three months to do that. Good luck and remember slow and steady wins the race.

A cup of almonds? That is 827 calories. IMO, that's too many almonds.

You absolutely should not think that you can or should lose 17 pounds a month. 5-7 is more like it and it's sustainable over the long haul. Eat a variety of foods, stay right at your goal calories, exercise moderately and repeat for the rest of your life.

Quick "emergency" weight loss nearly always leads to failure.

Are you going to plan a rest day for exercising? You really shouldn't work out 7 days a week. You need to give your body a rest so it can repair itself.

Remember that you didn't gain 17 pounds/month and you won't lose it that fast either. It's better to do it the healthy way. Depriving yourself of food and exercising until you drop is not sustainable.

I would suggest working out 3-4x/week and eating at a slight deficit (-20% TDEE). In the long run you will be happier and healthier.

That is 1389 calories before exercise. 576 net. I know that my goal seems high but I've seen a relative do it as well as watched extreme makeover: weight loss edition, and even if I lost half my goal by then, I'd still be happy. I lost 27 pounds in 2 months before so maybe I am overachieving, but I kind of feel like it's the only way to make myself motivated as this point through my depression. Thanks for the input :)

Before I started this diet I ate less than 1000 net and I hardly went to the gym. I don't disagree that I should be eating more but I am struggling eating more as I am feeling very full.

    Thanks for the input :)

I like to overachieve it's the only way to get myself out of the bed in the morning, especially on the note that I suffer from severe anxiety, insomnia, and depression. But I am trying to change myself so that I don't get disappointed. I am struggling with eating more than what I am as I am feeling very full.

As for the sustainability of the diet, I am trying to change my WOE into a lifestyle that is GMO, grain, and gluten free. As it is, before the diet, I ate less than 1000 cals per day net and didn't work out much, what really made me gain weight was all the bad carbs (bread, bagels, crackers, pasta, white rice, etc.).

    Thanks for the input! :)

    Hi there,

Saturday and Sunday are my rest days. Walking will be walking with my dog and baby in the stroller...it's going to be more of a stroll. I actually gained 60 pounds in 7 months, which is quite close to that, but it was from binge eating due to anxiety and depression. I don't feel as though I am depriving myself at all, I feel very full when I eat more than I am almost to a point where I want to throw up, which is my problem.

Thanks for the input, really appreciate it :)

I've watched Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition as well. But there are some major differences between yourself and contestants on the show. The contestants are morbidly obese - usually 400+ pounds. They have a lot more weight to lose, and they have the fat stores to support a large calorie deficit. They also eat 1500-1800 calories a day every day. I doubt Chris Powell would be on board with your plan.

With 70 pounds to lose, 2 pounds a week is the most you should be aiming to lose. I understand that you want to do it quickly, but fast weight loss =/= sustainable weight loss. If you want to have long-term success, you need to practice eating and exercise habits that you can use for the rest of your life.

    I really like almonds..haha
549 cals for 1 cup and it was throughout the morning (I don't eat a large breakfast and my mornings are typically slow and tedious)

I feel as though I need at least 2-4 weeks as a "kick-starter" as you will, or I will not be motivated enough to change my whole lifestyle.

Thanks for sharing your opinion :)

I think it is important to look at the nutritional value of the food you are eating, too much of one thing is not good. I would suggest only having 1/4 cup of almonds and having a slice of whole grain sprouted bread with almond butter to go with your banana. You want carbs to start your day. Also, there are a lot of health risks associated with rapid weight loss. Just something to keep in mind. Feel free to add me and I can share many of my recipes with you, as well as support! :) Happy weight loss!

If you were starting out at a much higher weight, you could probably drop that quickly for a short time. But I honestly think you might be setting yourself to fail here. I agree with everyone about your food, your plan is so aggressive you are going to make yourself miserable. I would hate to see you set such an unrealistic goal and such a restrictive plan and then possibly give up from disappointment :-(

    Lauren,

    NO. Just no.

It's only a little over four months to September, which means you need to lose about 17 pounds per month, which is a little over four pounds per week. That's plain self-destructive.

I really didn't think my plan was restricting at all!! I felt extremely full to a point that I felt I was purging. It might just be my anxiety so I think I will go see a doctor about this. Thanks for letting me know, I really appreciate it.

With every rapid weight loss I find losing weight gets harder because sudden crash diets mess your body up over time.
I usually gain all the weight back and plus ten because my body has learned to fear sudden famine and hold on ever harder and store more fat.

Be careful to change your eating habits in a sustainable way. Changing everything at once feels ambitious and good for awhile, but there is a reason it doesn't last. Instead of really changing the habits they are just being repressed all at once and will build pressure until they explode. Changing one thing at a time works because you can process and release each habit one at a time and really erase them from your life without the strain of fighting every battle at once.

Best of luck to you on your journey to your goal! Getting on a track to a healthier life is the greatest thing you could do for yourself and those around you. The more often you log, the greater the chances of you reaching your long term goals. Looking forward to your progress.
