lack of water/plateau

Sorry if this has been explained previously, but can a lack of water consumption cause you to plateau on weight loss? I'm consuming a very low number of calories (due to a medicine I'm on that's taken away my appetite) around 900-1200 a day. Water and I have never liked each other, so it's always been a struggle for me to drink it. I've tried adding Mio or Crystal Light to the water to see if that helps and it's still virtually impossible for me to get more than about 20 oz down a day. A couple weeks ago, I was doing better and drinking 32-64 ozs and I was dropping weight consistently during that time. I've noticed in the last week, I'm back to my "normal" water intake of 16-20 ozs a day and I haven't dropped any weight this week (when I was dropping previously I was dropping weight daily). Could this be due to lack of water/dehydration and/or the low calorie intake...or maybe a combination of the two? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

It could be any combination of low calories, lack of water, and medication. Drinks and foods like green tea and fruits will provide fluids to your body as well as water. Due to the fact you are on medication, you should be working with a dietitian to find the correct balance.0

Thanks for your response. I had forgotten about green tea being beneficial and I do like that, so I will try and start drinking that in the mornings and then switch to water when I get to work and see if that helps me.0

I hate drinking water too. Just struggle to get it down, and I'm not really into the flavorings.
I drink tea instead. I have lots of different varieties (green, black, herbal, flavored) and make it fairly weak so I don't buzz all day.0 -

You don't need to overconsume water like so many would suggest.
Try adding more fresh fruit to your diet.0 -
I used to drink very little water... did not care for the "taste" of it. I pushed through and have since then "acquired" a taste for it. Some tap water I cannot tolerate at all but drink mostly bottled or filtered water. I do not like "flavorings" so I now drink it plain and love it!0

Not losing weight for a week isn't a plateau. It's not even a stall. It's just a week of not losing weight.
And yes, decreasing your water can cause you to retain water. If your body thinks it's not getting as much as it has in the past, it'll hold on to it, causing an increase (or hiding weight loss if the scale hasn't changed) in your weight temporarily. Just wait until next week and your body will be fine. It just needs to figure itself out. Or drink more non-caffeinated tea and/or water and/or crystal light type things, and it'll let it go faster.0 -
Thanks for all the responses and I will try and be patient to see what the next couple of weeks show. Nice to know I can drink tea and still be getting in some of my water that way.0
