sugar addiction
I have just joined the group and I believe I am the worst sugar addict on the planet.
I usually eat plain icing mixture. I average about one kilo a week. I know its crazy but this has been going on for almost two years now. I have now quit !! this might be the tenth time I have quit but I am now 4 days sober. Lets hope I can keep it up.
ANY COMMENTS??

Welcome! I'm new here too and wanted to join the welcome wagon!
I can totally relate with the overactive sweet tooth. My big weakness is sodas... LOVE the sugar and carbonation! I'm doing a lot better about it now, mostly because of a bet a group of friends made once. We bet each other that we all couldn't go a month without sodas or candy. I don't know if it was the accountability of friends or the inner want to prove them wrong... but I completed the whole month, and ever since then, I haven't had as much of a sugar craving as I used to.
That being said... I do still enjoy a Coke or some Skittles, but a month away from all of it helped me come up with some healthier substitutes I actually enjoy.
I'm always in for making that kind of a challenge to myself again if you want to try it out. :happy:0 -
There are some really decent diet soda substitutes that taste pretty good....although you should limit your intake to one or two per day. I particularly like Pepsi Max, Diet wild cherry pepsi, diet barqs root beer, diet orange crush. I've completely cut out sugar and now after three months don't crave it at all. I get my sweet fix from one of these diet sodas. I would say that if you're a sugar addict, you have to go cold turkey, just like with everything else..... after a while, you'll stop craving it at all....0

I think cold turkey is the only way for me to go. I tried to control my sugar intake a few times but just ended up eating way too much at some point. The only hard thing for me now is to avoid buying it in the first place. As long as its not in the house I am ok.0

Hey Celesalk
Thanks for the idea of challenging myself.
I have decided to just start by doing it one day at a time coz I still have the cravings.
I think three months would be my best goal. If I can go three months then I will be so proud of myself and would never go back to eating it again because it would be so horrible if I had to start all over again.0 -
Glad to know I'm not alone...even after sticking with a great nutrition plan before the holidays I find myself slipping back into old habits...my drug of choice...gummy bears. I seriously can't get enough of those yummy little buggers. Starting a new workout program with my husband on Sunday so I guess its cold turkey again lol
I'd love to have a bunch of friends on here to help keep me accountable. I'm new on here though so I have no idea how to "add" people0 -
hey jennyfair 24,
I have just joined this morning too. I think just knowing that there are other people that have one thing they cant control themselves with be it coke, sugar or gummy bears makes me feel way better. I dont know how to add people too but as soon as I figure it out you will be the first one I add.0 -
Sugar is the devil.
I really do think it's as addictive as crack or cigarettes and have realized I cannot control my consumption. Like cigarettes (which i also used to be addicted to) I've realized I cannot have 'just one'. I have to completely cut it out of my diet. And if I slip once, just realize that I'll be facing a battle with the addiction that will only get worse the more I let myself have. This applies to any of the high glycemic index starches for me as well. No bread, no white potatoes, no rice, etc. I find it helpful to think of myself (like an alchoholic) as having a medical condition that prohibits me being able to consume any of it.
Luckily it's possible to survive, and be very healthy, with no sugar in your diet. What you get from vegetables and fruit is plenty. However, I do allow myself to use a small amount of Stevia to sweeten my tea. Diet sodas are bad for me. I think they 'trigger' my cravings.0 -
Sugar is actually JUST as addictive as crack. I recently found out that it has the same effect on the brain.
The only difference between crack and sugar is that while crack is illegal sugar is NOT!!0
