Welcome!! The most important thing to do, I find, is to track your food completely. Every single thing you eat. Its amazing how much the "little" snacks add up! I also think exercise plays a role in seeing results.. even if it is just a half hour walk each day.
Good luck on your journey! I think you will find this website to be really supportive!0 -
Thank you for those tips, and really ? Everything I eat ? What about for instance a carrot stick, do just estimate the calories ?0

Log everything, I even do the seasonings I add to foods because they count too.
Another is if you have a bad day don't beat yourself up, tomorrow is a new day. On that note, plan your meals, enter the food before you eat whenever possible, before you eat gives you the chance to change what you eat, after, well after is after.
You have came to a great place, very encouraging people so add friends, make me one if you like.
Best wishes in your journey!!!0 -
Log EVERYTHING is good advice. I know that after 4 months on MFP I know alot of calorie amounts off the top of my head but it took a LONG time to get there. I still have splurges, but when I log them I know I'm still in my range.0

Thanks for that and I'm sure I will get the hang of it0

Welcome, Tom! Here's a great place to start: At the top of this forum page are a couple of topics called "stickies"; they have a little red push pin icon next to them. You'll see one for newbies, and another with links you'll want to read. There's a ton of really useful info in these stickies with answers to most of the questions you'll inevitably be having in the coming weeks. Take a few minutes to read these and you'll save yourself a lot of grief later. Good luck!0

Right! This is day 4 for me and I don't know the calories and stuff of the normal things I eat off the top of my head yet. I will come here and log everything in, look at the calories, fat, protein, carbs, etc., then make adjustments if needed. THEN I go prepare and eat it. That way I can "fix" the problem before I eat it. You can do it!0

Hi!
You'll love this app - I use it primarily because I am a vegetarian and it helps me make sure I am eating properly and not hurting my body. It's also very nice to know how much we actually need to be healthy, and to be able to see exactly what is in the things we eat... because of this program, I also started working out and I lost 19 pounds! You can do what ever you set your mind to and the best thing is, you will get healthier along the way and you will look fabulous!
Main thing is to log absolutely everything you eat and try to do at least a little exercise a few times per week. Please don't be too hard with yourself when you set your goals. I would like to lose 10 more pounds, but I am only losing about half a pound per week, so nothing drastic. Also, plan your meals - if you know you are going out to dinner eat a lighter lunch or eat a healthy snack before you go out so you are not starving when you get to the restaurant. Sadly, I had to totally stop going to Cheesecake Factory because their food is loaded with calories, so maybe looking at where and what you eat and finding healthier alternatives might not be a bad time investment. Last but not least, get some friends to join you and get healthy together (I am trying to inspire my husband, but not luck so far)!
Good luck!0
