i want to know when do i have to start weight lifting or strength training , i just started exercising 1 week ago .. and my weight is 171 lbs and actually i have friends were lifting weight for months and when they stopped for a while they gained a lot of weight and all these muscels were turned to be fats in a small period so i am afraid from weight lifting because of that

another thing that i lost weight already but without exercising and i have a very thin legs in comparison to my upper body so the more i lose weight my upper body appears bigger even if i lose wieght in it .... so is there any way or kind of exercises that can balance between my upper body and lower body ?

You don't have to start lifting. You can chose any type of exercise you'd like. Resistance training does have it's advantages though, especially for women. You're not going to be young forever and eventually those bones are going to get softer (starts at the age of 30), which is the reason I started lifting. As far as your friends muscle turning to fat, that did not happen. Muscle is muscle and fat is fat. Made of 2 totally different types of cells. Bone doesn't turn into skin, vice versa. Like any exercise routine, the best results come from something that you'll enjoy and stick with. You may enjoy running, or Zumba, or even lifting if you give it a chance. As far as when to start if you chose to go this route, yesterday. The sooner you start the sooner your muscles start to maintain despite the weight loss, so you'll be losing more fat than muscle. With your legs being thin compared to your body, you can't change your body shape per say, you can build up your legs (mine have gotten bigger even as my body has gotten smaller), but you cannot chose where the fat comes off. Good luck with whatever you decide.
