My semi-success story.

I just ran my very first official 5k this morning. So today seemed like a great time to post my story. I don't consider it a success yet because I'm not close to being done. But I will say that I am well on my way!! fwiw I finished 7th and my times was 28:10. (not very great times but it's a small town race...lol)

I don't know exactly how long ago but at my heaviest I was about 335 lbs. On a guy that stands 5'11" that's just WAY too much..lol I guess I just got comfortable in my life and a little lazy. Ok A LOT LAZY! lol

Fast forward to August of last year.

My "then" wife had a job interview out of town. Well it wasn't so much a job interview as it was an extramarital affair. haha She never came back from that interview and it's been my 3 wonderful children and I since then. I decided things had to change! What had my my life become! I was now an morbidly obese single parent raising my kids by myself and I kind of want to be around to see them grow, ya know what I mean!! lol

Long story short. I'm divorced as of 4/8/2014. I've fell in love with jogging again as I used to jog before I met my then wife. I try to jog at least a 5k when I do jog and last saturday I ran and tried to push myself and made it 7 miles! I'm also going back to school to finally become a teacher, which is what I've wanted to do all my life.

Things are looking up and I couldn't be more happier!!

Mav .. you already know what I feel about your success. You are such an inspiration to me, and I would be totally happy to be making progress as you are.

Btw . .some stats for you. You did ... 6.62 mph, 10.65 kmh, pace of 9:04 per mile and pace of 5:37 per km. Those are pretty impressive numbers. You should be proud.

I don't normally get excited over other guys .. but yes Mav you look fantastic. Great job buddy.

I know you say you're not done so it's a semi-success, but wow, what an achievement! I'd say it's a full success already, anything else is just a bonus. I'm very impressed, be sure to keep your success going.

Looking good mate, looking good. :)

My highest "recorded" weight was 335. I have a suspicion I may have been as high as 350. ugh!

I am currently 215. I always thought I'd be happy at the weight I was when I met my exwife (189), however I don't think i had much muscle then. I really want to be out of the 200's. Just something about that that I have to do. I don't know where I will end up. I do know that I enjoy running and want to run a 10k next. So who knows where that sweet spot will end up being.

Wow to do all of that since August. That is amazing. I'm on week 5 of my journey, and I'm planning to work up to 1 mile at 5.5mph by week 10. I was having 2nd thoughts, but this motivated me!

Wow. Like others have said, this is NOT a semi-success story. This is a full-on-I-bet-she-regrets-her-choices story. Not that it's what you were going for, but yeah. You've inspired me big time. Awesome work!

Wow! You are just a COMPLETE SUCCESS! You have had to endure a huge task that was thrown upon you and you didn't give up. You are such a lucky man to realize your children are more important than life itself! So many other decisions you could have made and you have made the best ones! You will reap rewards from your children. They will take care of you, and love you forever knowing you didn't give up on them. They too will follow your example of taking care of themselves and being successful. Congratulations, You made it!

Your kids are lucky to have you. If life ever hands them a tough situation, they'll be able to look back on everything that their dad achieved and know that with hard work and belief in oneself, great things are possible. Good for you for keeping a sense of humour about the situation.
