Diabetic who is desperate to lose

Hello, I'm a fairly newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic and I am working diligently to lose weight and get this disease under control with diet and exercise. My doctor has recommended a lower carb diet. What are some low-calorie and low carb options? I am eating fairly low carb (other than my old fashioned oatmeal with natural peanut butter) or my 2 pieces of fruit daily. But my snacks have leaned toward string cheese and nuts or veggies and hummus. Any other ideas? I have been exercising 2 out of the 3 weeks I've been on MFP and have only lost 7 lbs. so far. I am getting discouraged by the scale. I even exercised 4 times yesterday!

When I was diagnosed I scheduled a visit with a dietitian who specializes in diabetes management. I would suggest you do the same.0

Hi there. Congrats on moving forward with the hard work it takes in managing a type 2 diabetic condition. Great job!
In addition to dpearson's great suggestion, many newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics seek out the help of a diabetes education course from their healthcare provider and find these courses to be very beneficial.

Have you looked into the Paleo diet? do some quick research on google and see if it would be an option. i really liked it when i tried it. i may just have to start doing it again!0

It's great that you're making changes to your food choices and fitting in exercise. Losing 7 pounds is a fantastic start! Often people get discouraged, go back to old habits, and regain weight. Keep moving forward, and you'll reach your goals. ~Lynn /Glucerna0

I guess it depends on what your definition of low carb is - what goals are you trying to reach?
One thing that really kicked in for me finally was that basically all foods have carbs - I tend to just watch overall carbs and not factor in net carbs as that is what seems to be working for me to keep my blood sugars in the normal range through out the day0
