I've been online and on the machines they have at gyms that cost like 50p but they all give me completely different outcomes.
Where can i go or what can i do to get the most accurate reading?

You can do a skin-fold pinch test. Check out this website (http://www.free-online-calculator-use.com/skin-fold-test.html#calculator). It shows you how to do it. If you don't have body fat calipers, you can get them at a local health store or on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/AccuMeasure-MyoTape-AM-3000-Fitness-Personal/dp/B002VAPHXW/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1398708625&sr=1-4&keywords=body+fat+calipers)

IMHO a dexa scan or find people who are really good at visual estimations..based on flexed/unflexed
any other method has too many variables that can lead to a false reading such as hydration, human error etc.0 -
DEXA scan or hydrostatic testing would be the most accurate options.
Well, outside of an autopsy that is. And I'd imagine that's out of the question.
But, both of those can be costly.0 -
Hydrostatic testing is most accurate in terms of finding out BF%.0

This is a pretty cost effective tool I have been using. It's nowhere near as exact as the dexa or hydrostatic but I don't need anything that accurate.

Our gym does Bod Pod testing. You sit in a pod for a minute (maybe it's less) and they push air into the pod. It is very accurate. I had to pay $50 for mine, but I got a buy 1, get 1 free and did one in January and one in April. Lost 4% body fat but only 2 lbs. It made me feel much better about the low weight loss because I could see the results on paper.0

I agree.

All other tests are subject to error and judgement calls.0 -
based on my understanding water displacement and bod pod can have misleading readings due to hydration.0

Actually hydration effects electronic methods of measurements.
Like body fat scales with metal pads and the handheld device.
Calipers are open to interpretation. The Pod you have to wear tight clothing and keep your hair in a cap because it measure the amount of air you displace. Water displacement is hard because you have to expel as much air as you can to get the most accurate reading.0
