getting rid of knee pain

I am getting back into shape after several years of minimal exercise. I have been trying to start running/jogging but it results in knee pain so I go back to walking and the elliptical. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the pain so I can run? On a a related note, the knee I have trouble with was sprained about 5 years ago while I was pregnant with my first son!

is the pain located in the front area of the knee or to the side of the knee ? slowly ease into running to get your body accustomed to the motions.0

Knee pain is pretty complicated and can be hard to diagnose and you haven't really given us much to work with. See a physio who will be able to diagnose you and give you exercises to build up the right muscles so that you are able to run safely. Some other suggestions include, good properly fitted running shoes, building up slowly, stretching and foam rolling and strength training leg muscles particularly your glutes0

Have you tried using a knee support? not sure if it will help. painful knees are a nightmare...0

So the pain is either right in the knee joint or directly above it in my leg.0
