Workout routine: morning vs night

Hi everyone! I just was curious about everyone's personal preference of what time of day they workout, could be morning, afternoon, evening or night. For me I always hit the gym around 8pm until 9:30, because that's when I have the most energy and get the most out of my workout. When I workout in the morning after breakfast, I get a very poor workout and feel sick to my stomach! Does anyone else get like this? What time of day do you guys workout?

I change the time I workout every day, sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon or at night based on my schedule. The one thing I always do is workout on an empty stomach because that's how I workout best

I workout whenever I can get it in.

If I am working nights at that time I typically go before work (between 12 and 2 PM).
If I am working days at that time I usually go after work, so 6 PM.

    Days off work...
If it is a strength day then I will go whenever I wake up, but usually that ends up being between 7-8 AM.
If it is a cross-training day, then I will go at whatever time the class is (I usually try for an AM class though).
Running depends on if I am running with my group or not. With the group, then I run at 6 pm. Without the group then I try to go at day break because I like watching the sun come up.

I'm an evening person, but that's only because I have a 45 minute commute and just can't get myself up any earlier to get to the gym before getting ready for work! So I just pack my gym clothes and bring them to the office, that way I'd feel guilty if I just go home and carried them for nothing. Plus, no waste of time in going home first to change and I'm more likely to get lazy about it if I go home first. I do have a good deal of energy from about 6-8 pm so it works.

That's great! I wish I could workout on an empty stomach without wanting to pass out!

I also am not a morning person - so it's really hard for me to get up early to work out - I tried it, not my cup of tea!

So then I tried afternoons -that seems to be the best - during the workweek I stop and work out on my way home 5-6 pm

On the weekends I get up (when I wake up - or the dogs wake me) and go before everyone is awake. Some might be up - some not - but at least I know there is an adult in the house if Max (8 yo) wakes up and I'm gone.

Saturday I went late morning because I had to be somewhere earlier -so I went after. Sunday I went about 930 a.m.

I think this is going to work for me. I don't like to do it late at night too - I get too pumped up and then can't fall asleep - which I already have enough issues with. I have trouble falling asleep before midnight - and when I tried evening workouts - I was up til 2 or 3 which made 7 a.m. really hard.

I workout whenever my son goes to sleep. Nap time in the afternoon or after he goes down for bed. When he is up, its kind of impossible. One time I put him in his playpen while I did some push-ups, and for some reason he found what I was doing hilarious and started laughing. Talk about the worst workout buddy ever.

i always work out after work so that I can get the stress from the day out….plus, I really do not feel like getting up at 4:30 am to work out and make it to work ….but if I had to I would work out in the am, however, when I do this I tend to feel more sluggish….

I'm a night person yet the most effective time for me to exercise is 1st thing in the morning. Get it over with, before other things get on my list of to dos. I feel good to get it done. By the end of the day, afternoon or evening - I'm too tired, come up with too many excuses to not do it.
  • I feel ya! I hate morning workouts, seems like im hungry all day too!
    I start mine from 11pm-1am....

I work out with my husband so it has to be around his work schedule - he finishes his first job at 3pm-ish and starts his second at 6pm, so we have a quick bite to eat, hit the gym for 20-30 minutes, then have a nice big meal and then he's out the door.

I typically work 6:30am-3pm. I am a morning person in general, but for whatever reason, cannot seem to get a good workout in in the mornings. I have much more energy in the afternoons, so I try to exercise as soon as I get home from work, usually 3 or 4pm. On the weekends, I work out late mornings.

I do both. I wake up at 6 am to get a 30 minute workout in and in the evening around 7:45-8:00 I do a 30-60 minute workout (depends on the length of the dvd I'm using). Right now I'm doing T25 in the morning and I just replaced doing Ballet Barre at night with Insanity.

I'm not a morning person either, but my sisters and I live together and it seems that everyone wants the shower at the same time. And no one besides me will be up at 6am, so I don't have to fight to get the shower. At night it's a totally different story, lol.
