Logged into cracked.com this morning to find some humorous tidbits to steal and work into my wall posts so I'd come off looking hilarious to the people I've totally fooled into thinking I have a sense of humor. It's like Photoshopping your personality.....anyway...I'm getting off topic.
We all see ads and infomercials for weight loss products. (I'll wait while you look to the right, and then look up.) See those? What if I told you that not everything in them was completely honest?
As I was saying before, I logged into cracked this morning and saw an interesting article about some of the rampant bs behind weight loss ads, and thought it was good enough to share with you fine people. Smacznego!

This is pure gold! Not that surprising, really. Did anyone think working out ten minutes a day would turn an obese SAD diet American into a ripped gym fanatic ever, much less in a month or three?
Haha. From your link:
"The real plan was for us to work out three to six hours per day for a month. They also put us on a strict diet (the DVD emphasized that you didn't have to diet at all, but this is the real world), locking us down to 1,000 calories a day, which you may recognize as the caloric value of the smell of a Big Mac."0 -
What a sad article.

Selling false hope.
Makes me mad0 -
But we already know this.
At least on this website, we do. :ohwell:0 -
Quick follow-up...I'm not sure what's got into cracked but they mention weight loss in this article also:

It's awesome to see that they are decrying very low calorie dieting.0 -

It's awesome to see that they are decrying very low calorie dieting.
And this is why I really liked the BBC documentary Super Slim Me, where the interviewer finds people who admit that they stay skinny by such esoteric and difficult methods as starving themselves for days and weeks at a time.
I envy her, too. Before this documentary, she ate very well and stayed at a perfectly healthy, lovely weight. I have never in my adult life done that. She talks about how horrible she felt, mentally and physically, after trying out all these various weight loss methods of the stars.
(It's on youtube for free if anyone wants to watch it.)0 -
"His name is Mitch Quarterback. He was captain of the handsome team and went to Yale to major in ab studies."
And also,
"In this fantasy world, there's an epic war raging where only those who look good in a red two-piece will survive."

Mine are for pet wound spray and a Kindle Fire. It's like "cats beating the hell out of each other? Don't get up, just spray them from the couch and keep playing Candy Crush."0 -
Sometimes I feel very sad thinking that a lot of people look at those ad not just for a laugh but because they believe in that crap...0
-
I was going to post that as well!0

I liked sooo much a book from Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose.
It was (also) on the intense desire of people to believe in impossible things. Their will of fooling themselves even ignoring the simple truth.
Like truth is too simple, they want something complicated, they want Mu and Atlantis and Roosvelt were killed by aliens and oh my gosh my dog was kidnapped by the monster of Lockness. Or, obviously, that for lose weight you have to shower yourself in oil of lattuce instead of looking at what you eat.
I still don't understand why. It's not all about intelligence. Many believers are not stupid. But... unfocused.. voluntarily unfocused, as to see only what they want to see.0 -
Thank you! What an excellent article. I hope all the people who fall for those weight loss scams read it.0
