Chinese Buffet

So I am going out for a friends birthday dinner on Thursday. She has chosen a Chinese buffet and I am anxious because I know an all you can eat buffet is really the last place I want to be, but I need to go and be a good friend. So what items should I be absolutely avoiding and which ones are apt to be the most healthy/low calorie options?

It is one meal for your friend's birthday. Enjoy the meal and support your friend. lower calorie options will be non-fried , or stir fried vegetables. But I would not avoid anything. Go and have a great meal.0

Just avoid anything deep fried, including the chicken dishes which are first deep fried in batter before being stir fried with a sauce and veg. This category includes sweet and sour chicken, lemon chicken and General Tso chicken. I would also avoid fried rice and noodles.
That leaves meat and vegetable stir fries with plain rice, soups, steamed dim sum.0 -
anything is fine .... in moderation.
Just have a plate of what you like....and avoid the temptation to "all you can eat"
Prawn toast / sweet and sour chicken balls etc are all deep fried. Rice and noodles are heavy carbs. Chinese is typically high in salt.
Drink plenty of water !0 -
Keep it to one plate. Or just enjoy yourself and splurge a little. It's OK to do that once in a while!0

One great dinner isn't going to hurt you at all, as long as the rest of the week you stick to your calorie goal.0

I'm going for an all you can eat tomorrow. Indian, Chinese, Italian etc I've worked out a few days and kept those calories aside for tomorrow. I'll no doubt go over my calories but i don't care. It's a one off really, we all deserve a treat. Have fun, be sensible and get back on it afterwards.0

Thanks all. I know the key is moderation. I will just have to remind myself of that.... I know if I let myself go all out, I could eat double my daily calories in an hour at a buffet no problem! lol. I will go and enjoy myself but limit to one plate (and try not to heap that plate too high )0

I need help I've just been to one today for lunch(the Grand Buffet)but have no idea what to put as I go for 80% healthy options?non of these plates are full or piled up
my first plate was stir fried broccoli and three small pieces of tofu in a sauce but I scraped most of it off and only three as I've heard they can deep fry it.also some stir fried mushrooms and aubergine both of which didn't seem to have a lot of oil on them and a tiny bit of noodles possible about 10 long bits.
Second plate was lettuce and cucumber two rolls of lean ham,4 olives, a mozzarella slice with a slice of tomato and basil some omelet thing just a tablespoon and a few sprigs of stir fried broccoli.
Third plate yes third plate was 100g chips which I could tell from when I weigh them at home a tablespoon of curry sauce and some stir fried mushrooms,this was my smallest plate.
Dessert two a profiteroles, a mini cream tart with a cherry on top ,a mini ring donut and a mini trifle.
It seems a lot now I've writing it down but most of it is veg.
Any thoughts on cals?0 -
one "bad" or "unhealthy" meal wont make you fat, just like one "healthy" or "good" meal wont make you skinny. you'll probably end up gaining temporary weight the next day either way because of the amount of sodium in chinese buffets. in the long run it won't affect your progress so please enjoy!0
