Stiff knees after squatting and lunging

Hello All:

I have been on News Rules of Lifting for Women for about a month now. I have always had one of my knees go stiff after squatting or lunging pretty much all my life. However, with the added weight my left knee is stiff to the point to where I can barely walk up the stairs. There is NO pain which is why I haven't seen a doctor. It just feels like it needs to be stretched or popped, for lack of a better word. I am sure that my form is good, no knee past the toe, etc. I just need a good stretching exercise for knees. I did an internet search with little to no success. I have taken up yoga this past week to see if it would help, but nothing is working. Any suggestions on how to 'stretch' your knees?

yoga is a good idea...after your workout, take some advil, ice the knees, take an epsome salt bath, make sure you have rest days. I'm not a doctor, but sometimes my knees are brutal. I also want to try the kinesiology tape to see if that helps anything. I found that if there's no pain or super discomfort, than I keep going. Squats and Lunges are deadly exercises and you might not be used to them yet ;) P.S. I also do new rules of lifting and yoga lol

Thanks, I will try these things. Especially the bath. Good idea. :)

It sounds like it is probably swelling. First, check your form on your squats, make sure your butt is back with your weight on your heels instead of your toes. Ice your knee after your squats and lower the weight you use, but if this continues, I would recommend trying a different exercise and probably going to your doctor to have it checked out.

Try "mashing" and stretching your hamstrings and quads. Both muscles wrap around the knee.
