Hi! I have just started trying to lose weight (again).

I have been pretty good this week, but I've been reading some conflicting stuff about black olives. I have read that they contain a lot of fat, supposedly it's the "good" kind. However, is this fat going to hurt me, even though I am staying within my daily caloric allotment?

I don't want my snack to derail my efforts! Lol

If you're within your calories, that's all that matters. I love black olives, I eat them at least once a week as a snack :) They're super low-calorie and taaaasty

I count the calories as I gobble them up. Lots of flavor for a small item. (I'm into bitter flavors)

Fat doesn't make you fat. Eating at a surplus makes you fat. So as long as you keep at a calorie deficit from what you would need to maintain...then no, eating olives isn't going to derail you losing weight.

Black olives are yummy and healthy. Fat isn't bad...especially in olives.

BTW, you are 5'7 and want to weigh 118 lbs. ???? Good lord......

They're essentially the same in calories, but the green ones (as well as Kalamata, etc.) are usually brinier, so the sodium is undoubtedly higher.

Olives have mono unsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) which is the good kind of fat that will help lose belly fat.
