Hello All

Hello everyone, my name is Arthur and its nice to make everyone's accquaintance. I joined because maybe I can help motivate and helped be motivated to stick to my diet and lose some weight. I am 24 and obese and with some of my recent symptoms and mental disorders that I have, I am really scared and anxious about my lifestyle. I know I am the one to blame for the way I am, just its so hard once you have become lazy and then depression sinks in making it a lot worse. I recently got some wake up calls in my life saying I need to change. My father recently was diagnosised with diabetes and my grandfather is is currently on his last days from a heart condtion. So I really need help to start and maintain this so I can live a longer and more happier life.

    Baby steps, my friend.

Keep eating what you like but less of it. You can't do a 180 overnight because you're just going to crash and burn if you do. Make a transition to healthier foods at your own pace. If you like soda, then switch to diet soda or crystal light. If you like chips, then get baked/popped. If you like ice cream then get frozen yogurt (or just make homemade ice cream with a good blender). Obviously, leaner cuts of meat are good. Cheese is calorie dense, so you want to use sparingly if at all. Same deal with nuts and legumes so moderation is key. Fruits are nature's candy but like candy they contain a lot of sugar so again moderation is key.

Get a kitchen scale if you don't have one and measure pretty much everything. Be religious about logging your macros into your food dairy. The only way you won't lose weight is if you don't eat at a calorie deficit. Remember, crash dieting doesn't work and it can be dangerous! Incorporate some exercise whenever and wherever you can so your fitness level up goes up. Brisk walking is good if you're just starting out. I also really like the elliptical machine because it's easier on the knees so check that out. Remember, you can be slim and yet still out of shape.

So with all that said, remember that this has to be a lifestyle change, and that you need to fight the long fight. You need to keep your eye on the prize and at the same time focus on the journey there. There will be times that you may want to give in, binge, etc. Just remember why you started. Ultimately, you're in control of your destiny. If you truly want this, then you will achieve it, and if not, then that was your choice too. All of this is connected to your free will and the choices you choose to make, for better or for worse Never forget that and good luck.
