I just signed up for my 1st 5k this coming Saturday. Is there anything in particular that will help me run longer and not get so fatigued? I can run 1-2 miles on treadmill but never run outside. I don't want to be the last. Fat girl across the finish line so any and all advice appreciated:)

If you haven't run outside much, your body will notice a difference between it and running on the treadmill. Pavement doesn't give like a tread's belt .... there are left and right tilts ... potholes ... etc.

Set realistic goals. Use this first 5k to set a time or run/walk ratio to beat in your next one.

Go out and run what you can, stay within your limits, and walk what you have to. Use the crowd mentality to your advantage ... find a group of people moving at/near your goal pace and stick with them.

    Most importantly ... enjoy it.

I think the biggest thing is to not try and run too fast. It is very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the moment and wear yourself out too quickly
