Trying not to give up...

It seems for so long now I've been bouncing between 180 - 188... i know why. I get down, and i always think "surely a little treat wont ruin it all, and i've earned it." and i gain from it, then that little discouraged stress eater voice says "have some more" the next day. you see the pattern...
for a while, i've managed to keep enough of a grip to keep from getting past 183. but there is still all this bouncing i cant hang on long enough to get below 180.2... POINT. TWO. thats so frustrating, once i get to .4 i screw it up again.
I'm not confused about why im bouncing, i know im either eating the wrong things, or eating too much, or a little bit of both...
I do take measurements, but because of all the bouncing i havent improved anything in two months.
I dont WANT to give up. but hanging on is so tiresome right now...
The friends i have here on MFP have been wonderfully supportive, but i could really use some more support right now...

I have the exact same issue at a different weight. The one thing that keeps me going is knowing I also had this issue around 150-160, and eventually I just got so tired of it that I got determined and pushed on through. I wish I could tell you one event or one mindset change that did the trick, but there wasn't just one eureka moment. I just decided at some point enough was enough with the 150s. Hope this happens soon for you, too, I know how frustrating it is.0

There really are no wrong foods, unless you have a medical issue.
Eating too much is the problem, IMHO. Do you use a food scale regularly?
Also, it's best not to reward yourself with food. You are not a dog.
Recommit yourself to the goals you've established and you will be unstoppable.0 -

I'm going to agree with this (bet you didn't see that one coming, Jestinia )
You just have to keep going. It's hard, it's discouraging, and sometimes feels like you'll never make it But, you will if you just keep going. Patience is the hardest part of weight loss. Build those good habits around eating well and exercising and they will not let you down.0 -
I have done the same thing too. I decided on some small goals and posted them. By seeing those goals daily I kept my focus. That enabled me to break through by not having that one cookie that I had "earned" for dropping some weight even though I was not at my goal yet. The goals were not all weight related. Some were exercise, sleep, and family related.
Good luck!0 -

 Sadly sometimes determination is all we have to work with. Luckily, often it's enough.0 -

Wow.. thats a whole new perspective that i think i needed. thank you.0 -
you MUST mentally commit to a healthy lifestyle. this is not a diet, but a way of life. do not reward yourself with food. it is a short term gratification with long term negative results. Drink a glass of water and distract yourself.. get out of the house. instead of saying "I can't eat that" say. I "don't eat that!" I avoid the samples at Costco like the plague. All that crap gets you off target. what I'm saying is that some people diet because they feel like they HAVE TO... not because they WANT to be healthy. You have to commit to the end result you want and plan on this being a new lifestyle for you if you really want the results.0

Thank you guys! i'm going to focus on refreshing my determination, rather than constantly thinking i have to eat this or that.0 -

I've been trying to make this a lifestyle, which in retrospect has thrown me off... there really isnt a lifestyle without the occasional french fry. i think i need to remind myself what "occasional" means, lol. i really like the "i dont eat that", thank you! im sure that will help me :]0 -
ALL of you have just made my day. you're freakin awesome0

Let me stop you right there. A little treat won't ruin it. You can perfectly fit treats in your day.
You can't gain fat from it unless it's a 3500 calories treat over your TDEE. It's sodium. It's NORMAL to gain water weight all the time when you lose weight. It takes 3500 calories to gain or lose one pound. Track your food properly (weighing helps being accurate). Log your treats. You'll see that you haven't gained fat... just water. And it hasn't ruined anything.
You can absolutely include treats in your daily calories too... just eat less the rest of the day. You need to change your mindset... it's not all or nothing. It's a life time change.0 -

OP - Are you using a food scale? Try weighing everything (except liquids) for a month and see if that makes a difference. I bet it will.0 -
i havent been able to get one yet.. I've been asking for one for my birthday this month.0
