I'm nervous.

Today will be my first day trying to lose weight and build some muscle as well. The thing is I'm terrified I'll do it for a week or a month and then fall off track, and that wouldn't be good. How do I stay motivated, especially at first since weight doesn't just fly off?

    I'm not sure I get it.
    What's so scary about weight loss? It's either you lose the weight and are in a better place OR you stay as you are and have been okay with for however long you've been this way. What's scary?
    I'm trying to understand this, I'm not trying to be mean.

    Losing weight is hard. I say start small. Set small goals. In my case was giving up sugary drinks. I could not do it. So instead I set a goal to one less. Once I was okay with one less, I went down to one less after that. After three weeks, I only drink a sugary drink maybe once a week.

    So if you are changing eating habits start small. If it's works outs the same too. I could only do a minute on the elliptical, now I'm up to 10 minutes. I got stuck there a week but I'm hoping to add half a minute and so on.

    The weight is not flying off of course, but once I can do a full 30 minutes I'm sure I will do okay.

    Also know that some of the weight does come back, but it won't mean you gained it in fat, Muscles getting tone also adds to your weight.

    I know that it's confusing. But I've struggled with body image and weight for as long as I care to remember. The weight loss isn't scary, it's a change. It make me, personally, nervous to do things differently. And even if it's better for me, I feel like I might just give up and that, the fact that I don't know how to commit, makes me nervous. I can only try, but it's the change in lifestyle that makes me nervous. (I hope that makes sense)

    I would incorporate a strength training program into your workouts. New Rules of Lifting for Women, Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5x5 are all great programs. I'm currently doing SL5x5 and love it.

    I understand what's scary. In my case. I was scared to not lose weight. I myself have not been okay with my current weight, and I have tried to lose it. It's a challenge given there are limited excises I am able to do.

    I guess now, I am scared to always be this heavy as it's not good for me. I have trouble walking you see, so the heavier I am the more difficult it becomes to balance, lack of balance brings falls. Falls can now, be potentially worse than when I was younger.

    In my case failure is scary, and it's nerve wrecking to do all that work for nothing. I know at least we try, that should be it's own reward, but it's difficult.

    Failure is scary. Succeeding is just as scary. Once you succeed at something, you then have to continue that level of excellence for the rest of your life. "What if I succeed and I am still unhappy with my life? What if I succeed and people expect more out of me? What if I succeed and I can't handle the pressure of being a new person."

    Success can come with very legitimate fears.

    If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal
    If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal
