Hi all. I am new to MyFitnessPal. I really enjoy cardio, cycling, swimming, walking, Zumba. I have ridden 60K over the past 4 days. I am willing to show up, and I'm willing to work hard. But when it comes to weights, I feel a bit lost. Can someone recommend a good starter routine? Maybe point me to some good basic information on strength training?
Thanks!
Timma

For the most bang for your buck, you'd be looking at heavy lifting with barbells (or dumbbells if you don't have access to barbells).
I highly suggest reading Starting Strength, Stronglifts, AllPros and NROL. Pick one of the routines and stick with it for a few months.
Other forms of strength/resistance training you could also look into are TRX Supsension and Sandbags.
If you don't have access to equipment, look into bodyweight routines from Convict Conditioning, NerdFitness, or/and You Are Your Own Gym.

This is the intro-to-lifting guide I put together. You may find it helpful. The other links here are great, too.

You can book a session (or more) with a personal trainer to be taught proper form and different lifts.
Look up stronglifts 5x5
watch youtube videos on form and lifts0 -

Start simple and basic. Push-ups, crunches, etc. Then move onto machines and free weights. As with all exercise, form is the #1 thing when it comes to weights. Keep your back straight, your shoulder blades tucked behind your back, and as long as you aren't doing anything crazy with the weights, you should be okay.0
